Why a low graphic game prove overclock unstable

Thread Starter
I have been overclocking my GTX 580 and I did a several hour stress test using MSI Kombuster, ATI Tools, and furmark. then I did a 50x loop of crysis warhead benchmark test and the overclock seemed stable. I then go to play a game my cpu can almost do the graphics on and the graphics driver crashed with in 10 minutes. why would a game not heavy on graphics find an issue the stress testing couldn't?

Those stress tests don't really test your card like they should. The card is throttled to prevent damage during Kombustor. The best stress test is to play it on your most graphically demanding game.

Did you update Java and all your browser plug-ins?

EDIT: Also run MSI Afterburner and see if the card is even being used while you're playing that game.

And did you try the new 580 beta driver: http://www.overclock.net/software-ne...a-drivers.html

I've experienced this as well. I get higher "stable" overclocks in Crysis Warhead than in 3DMark06.

Also, +1 for LoL
