Eyefinity monitor question

Thread Starter
I am thinking strongly about going for eyefinity on my next build.

My question is, Am I going to have to fork out 1200.00 bucks for 3 Dell (or similar) display port monitors.

Or can I simply buy 3 DVI monitors, and buy the active dvi to dp adapter?

Just by the adaptors.

The adapter will work fine.

It should be advertised as "eyefinity validated" for maximum support.

accell single link active for 1920x1200 or under. dual link for above those resolutions (per monitor).

Here's a good one for all the cards with MINI DP.

A friend of mine has 5 of these running a 5 monitor portrait group. 1080p per monitor. Technically you can run 2 monitors off the included passive adapters. If they happen to not come with the card... just get all active.

Here is the list of all the adapters. Make sure you are getting the correct displayport size (regular or mini) for your card. Don't bother with passive.

I also would like to build a triple monitor setup but I have a few questions.

1.Are Nvidia cards capable of 3 monitors too?

2.AMD 6950's with eyefinity does not have 6 mini display ports. it have like 2 DVI's, 2 HDMI's and 1 Mini Diplay. Do I still need to have some kind of adapters with 6950?

Yes you will need one active adapter. The HDMI port is a clone of one of the DVI ports, just so you can hook up a different cable without an adapter. There are only two actual DVI/HDMI signals coming out of the card. The rest are displayport.

Hope this helps.

So I can only use the 2 DVI/HDMI and the 3rd monitor should be hooked on the Mini Display port? Your post definitely helped. Thanks! repped

but dell Ultra sharps are just so damn sexy ... I think its worth it just for the quality of monitor personally, since your still paying 50$ per adapter, but I'd pay 100$ extra for these monitors.
