Project Aspire (Stage 1) (Taking Suggestions for Nick-Name!) - Page 3

wondering if you moved psu to the front could you fit a 240 rad o the side? then just run a psu cable extension to the back? also if you put the rad on the side more airflow over the mobo, ram, ect.

do you get what i mean or did you want me to try show you?

Reason I chose not to place the PSU that direction would give me a mess of cables nearly right ontop of the motherboard, I took initiative knowing whatever length the PSU is, it still needs a good 2" for all cables to get organized. + that would make me have to invent a new place to place a drive bay.

Right now project is on hold I have some bitcoin mining rigs being built right now, if those do well and profit nicely I'll definetly look at doing this build still but I'm going ground up on it again.

I has ideer: I was looking at this thinking how incredibly cool it would be, and then how unbearable it would actually be to work on that thing without an external keyboard mouse and was trying to figure out why it would be so uncomfortable to work with and realized the problem was simpler than I had given it credit for. I love working on my laptop because it's flat. Aspire obviously is NOT flat. Your idea for it is mobile desktop, like a heavy laptop with no battery...right? Well, for your home...you should build/mod a desk to accept the case suspended below the desktop and canted slightly forward to give you the ergonomic "laptop-like" position and height that you know you'll want.

Hey mate how are you going with making the hinges on this project have you worked out how to fabricate them in a real world concept?

Love your idea I have quite a few ideas how to implement practically. hinging the screens is fair enough but dont forget your going to need three separate power cable to power screens.

Heres a idea

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/1M-10-WAY-Flat-Rainbow-Color-Ribbon-Cable-IDC-26AWG-/180739947994?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2a14f0bdda

Flat ribbion cable, depending on the screen you use they will ethier 12v or 19v if you serial connect the screens using the center screen as the master supply .

Will wait till your building to share ideas. Subbed

The build is going to be awhile off, but once I have some money still would love to do it, thinking smaller, now that I have my Alienware m18x, I want to compete in the laptop market.. with my system of doom =).

but Thinking now I can more than likely cut the system size if I do something similar with the power supply to get that outside of the case, and then put both prospective graphics cards on PCI-E ribbons to allow for maximum thinness, would also require me to turn all the radiators on their side, but should theoretically be able to half the size of the case.

realistically I think this is a build set for the next 3-4 years before I actually do it, until then its going to be draft draft, and then auto-cad.

The hinges and everything will need to be custom fabricated, but ya ribbon cable is going to be the way to go.

but if I can take out the PSU, just drop it on the floor, make either 1 massive female connector that I plug said PSU into the back of the system, or just simply run the cable inside, should work, also of course fabricate something to protect the PSU... I mean... dragging a 1200W+ PSU on the floor is always a great idea.

So if I do this I'm fairly sure I could half its thickness, and make it nearly as thick as the laptop I just got the m18x =)

Should beable to lay at least 1-2 360 rads beside the motherboard which would easily cover cooling.

Ya I'll definitely have to do another sketch now that I have a better idea,

still wanting to go on the 'go big or go home', still focused on Mobility, and being a Desktop replacement.

I'm just imagining the power connector now...

its going to be like... huge..., not sure if it would be safe to just make a massive connector on the back of the system to just connect all of the male ends of a powersupply into female connections.
But has to have a secure connection, at the same time still needs to be a quick/connect / disconnect so I'm not spending 5 minutes connecting everything.

That Or, could still have the PSU internally, but turn it horizontally so that it's thinner, which, the height of the PSU would essentially be the height of the core of the system, making it roughly about 2x as thick as the m18x, which for the power trade-off would be acceptable. I am curious how thin I could go, but I think Height of the PSU would be fairly close to that limit, so for simplicity sake I'll prob keep it internal in the design so its only 1 power cord, unless I find a better design, because essentially with PCI-E bands I can move the GPU's anywhere I want, though to keep the watercooling system and all the bends required, the very very minimum height I can think of "roughly" is going to be where the RAM would meet up with the case, and the height of fan+rad, would roughly be 50-55mm.

The GPU's will only be a slot big each, and I could prob stack em on top of each other and still be within the 55mm.

obviously there still needs to be some room here and there, but I mean details details, just getting the core design is whats important.

My Current goal is to get this designed to the component basics so that conventional components with conventional measurements will be hot-swappable with the design and dual-gpu quadfire setup.

The current configuration is definetly too much space, no real point in having so much space, I can snake cables in all shorts of nooks and crannies, as long as the fans aren't starving they'll keep the airflow even stronger in a smaller case like that.

I'll also probably try and section off the radiators so that air-flow is strictly in-out, and doens't touch the rest of the case, I can add small fans here and there to give normal components regular air-flow, but no point is giving them hot-radiator air since the radiators will definitely be sucking in if placed on the bottom of the case.
