PNY gtx580

hey guys. im just wondering what you guys think of this card http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product...k=pny%20gtx580

I know its a reference card, and dosnt have some awesome after markey cooler, but il be able to get one at cost price through a friend for around 370$.

The only thing im iffy about is the PNY name, ive never really heard of them. but at the same time, all reference cards are the same, so i guess all they did was slap their stickers on it

are you able to change the stock cooler on a gtx580? i changed the cooler on my old 8800 years ago when the fan died, but the gtx580 has that vapor chamber or whatever its called, and im not sure if that will get in the way of changing the cooler.

Thanks for any help

PNY is a great brand, they actually manufacture Nvidia's Quadro cards, and I think they make the cards reference that other brands use. They're a very good company, and their warranty is good.

As for the cooler, yes you can change it, but there's no point, really, since the vapor cooler is very good. The only thing worth changing to for GTX580's (IMO) is water cooling.

you will have a severe bottleneck if you are going to put that card in your sig rig, I just went from an E8400 at 4.2 ghz with my gtx570 to a i5 2500k and its night and day, the gpu was hardly ever used above 50% with the core 2 duo except for 3dmark

thanks dude ive heard of the pny brand, but never bought any of their stuff. i guess i was kinda iffy about it because they make cards you can buy at bestbuy or futureshop

and im pretty sure il have no need for watercooling on the card, but its good to know that the stock heatsink will be alright

PNY also makes RAM memory. Good brand. Today as of this post you can save: $40.00 and buy it for $489.99 US. PNY VCGGTX580XPB GeForce GTX 580 free shipping too. Usually I would recommend another brand as option as a personal choice but for that price, it's the lowest I've seen any of the GTX 580's more than the occasional $20.00 US off sale.

I had a PNY graphics board WAY back in the day that was supposed to be high end. It lasted less than a year before it started having problems (artifacts, lines across the sceen, blank screens, etc...).

I'm still not sure what caused the problem, I may have just gotten a bad board, but PNY refused to replace it. I suppose it could have happened with any manufacturer, but the whole experience really put me off from PNY, and I even switched to ATI for awhile.

Anyway, your experience may vary, but for me personally I stay away from anything with "PNY" on it. Hope this helps.
Thank You OCN!

well this card is pretty much a reference card. straight from nvidia with PNY only slapping their sticker on it.

i tend not to judge a whole company by one product, over the years ive had an Asus 6600 die on me after a week, and an MSI mobo die on me after a few months, but i still buy Asus and MSI products
