AMD Phenom II X4 925 popped 4.0!!!! - Page 3

That's pretty good; I was able to get 4.2GHz with 1.56v on my old Phenom II 945, although I had a slightly nicer board (Asus 790GX) and better cooler (Zalman CNSP9900LED). Just try to stay under 1.6 for benching sessions and under 55C load and you'll be absolutely fine.

Yeah 3.8 GHZ is very nice for this chip.

One of these days I'm going to have to try to push mine farther. Just chilling at 3.36 GHZ right now because my ram is at 1600 exactly and if I go higher my ram speed drops A LOT.

Also for my computer needs (mainly gaming) it doesn't seem like I gain much of a benefit from going higher. It's always fun though to try to push it to the limits

Have you stress tested it yet? My 920 will boot at 3.7 on 1.4v, but I BSOD the second I start Prime95 up.

Hyujmn I haven't put it through prime95, but I was gaming on it with RIFT for about 4 hours straight. Not a problem at all. Then I played some Crysis 2 demo for about 30 min. Again no problems. Heating has been just fine imo.

To me it seems as though these chips are a hit or miss on what you can get out of them. Most people seem to run them in the low 3's so I dunno lol!

But playing games still isn't stress testing, or stressing the CPU as much as Prime95 or OCCT would.

My 925 OCced to about 3.2ghz on Stock Cooling, gets to about 60C - 63C (45C idle) on prime95 using stock voltages, but doesn't reach that high on daily usage, even while gaming..am I pushing my chip too far @ stock cooling? or should I get some aftermarket cooling?

I find it hard to find an aftermarket cooling that could fit inside my low profile case, so it could mean that I may also have to get a bigger case..speaking of the case, mine has three fans, one blowing in the side for the motherboard, and two exhaust fans out back..

...and two years later, still running the same chip..and bumped my stable OC up a bit (3.304)! http://valid.canardpc.com/2866507

I managed to get my hands on a DeepCool Ice Edge Mini modded out with an extra fan (push-pull) and my temps are at about 57C on 100% load, Prime95 for four hours. Tempted to go Liquid Cooling for much higher clocks, though real-world benefits aren't that much, as I just use my machine for a little browsing / mild gaming / multimedia, so the extra money will be better spent on replacing my HD4670..
