Need Help With Computer Freezing!

Thread Starter
Hi. My computer always freezes up about 5 minutes after windows starts up and sometimes even when it's starting up at the windows logo. I've tested a couple different graphics cards and it does the same thing. I've reinstalled windows and it does the same thing as well. I have two 2GB sticks of RAM and I've ran my computer with either one of them in alone in all slots and still does the same.

I talked to a couple computer savvy guys and one says it's the PSU and the other says it's probably the mother board, but I'm not sure. I've already replaced the PSU before cause of something similar to this, but back then I couldn't even boot up or anything. I'd appreciate any help. I've been without my computer for weeks now

Thanks

My pc specs are in the "System" below my post and they're all up to date. I configured the memory myself and it still froze and now it's on auto. It's been awhile since I configured it myself though since I've had this problem for awhile I just gave up for a month until now. My running check disk right now and can't do anything until it's done, but when it's done I'll set the values in bios.

alright man, here what to do, your pc freeze on auto settings or not? if not, when you go in windows, run CPU-Z, when you do that, hit the SPD tab and there would be specs of different frequency and below it are the timings, if your using 1066, then look under 533 and set the timing of the 4 #s... example.. it says 5-5-5-15, set it at that. and keep trying different #, subtracting 1 or adding 1.. i played with my system RAM settings for quite some time since most of time it has it freeze up every once in a while which turns out auto wasnt doin its job which they never do, and certain timings it comes with doesnt always work cause it is for that speed and u cant run it, mine is Corsair Dominator GT 2000mhz with 9-10-9-27 timing, i run it at 1333 with 9-9-9-26 and works great. for which i have not done my OC yet with the CPU, ill be doing that in next few days to get up to 4ghz-4.2ghz range

Alright. I'm going to try that once this disk check is finished. My computer does freeze up using auto settings so I'm going to set the RAM timings myself. I'll let you know how it goes after messing around with it for a bit.

Thank You for your help

do memtest on it if you havent to ensure whether you have faulty memory or not..

lol @ title thread was I the only one that thought 'subzero cooling'

sorry back on topic, going to event viewer can help determine what the problem might be.

hit start and search 'event viwer' there should be entries relating to the error. post back what the error code is. if you unable to login to windows try in safe mode.

if it freezes at logon, mainly looks like either a corrupt hal.dll, a registry_hardware key/value, or a hardware issue.
try chkdsk /r, Device Manager, Safe Mode etc

I kind of have to go with some driver software problem since you can install fine and it's not freezing during the install.

Does a Linux LiveCD work without issues? I'd also run Memtest in case.
