Make sure that you double check all of your power connections, even going as far as unplugging and plugging them back in.

The only reason i thought it might be a PSU fault was that one time when my PC froze and i had to restart, the PC wont turn on, i have a usb device that would light up when there's power going into the PC and the light turned off when i pressed the power on button. i left it alone for about an hour or so and tried it again and it turned on fine. Anyone know what might be causing this or is it a faulty PSU?
I know that my computer wouldnt boot if I had a USB charger connected to the PC while booting up.

ex. Having a USB Ipod charger connected, and then booting up, it wouldnt (for me)

Do you have another graphics card you can install in this machine; or can you install this card into another machine to test?

Alternatively, if you purchased the card locally, you could take it back and exchange it.

I would also suggest that you open the Event Viewer (Control Panel -> Administrative Tools) and see if there are any Critical or Error Events occurring at the same time of your crashes.

On a side note and non-hardware related... Updating the DirectX 9 components within Windows 7 resolved my driver stopped responding errors.

Ok i managed to salvage my old 7600GS from my old PC and put it in, and i tried to run Dawn of war2 (in low graphics options) but it ran fine! before with the gtx460 it would freeze even in the the intro movie.. Does this mean it's definitely a faulty GPU then?

Ok, now it might be a driver issue.

Download driver sweeper, install it.

Turn off PC and install the 460.

Go in safe mode, run it driver sweeper and check nvidia display. Leave physx..

Restart in normal windows, and install latest drivers.

and uninstall any OCing software.

@ Kora04 - He hasn't overclocked anything. Also, it's a brand new build with a fresh driver install. So, I'm pretty sure that it's not a driver issue.

@ kliu448 - Since your other card works fine, I'm gonna lean towards a faulty GPU. Especially, since it failed in Furmark.

+1. It seems to be a defective GPU.

I had the same problem for a long time. I had to safe mode remove drivers and reinstall. It turned out I installed the same drivers like 4 times and forgot to remove the old ones. (Yes I know extremely dumb), but it is worth a try.

Fresh driver install? Still could be an improper install or installed it more then once on accident. Worth a try before RMAing a GPU.

That error is related to drivers and incompatibility with something the program/game is calling for. It happens quite a bit to Adobe PS users with new driver releases. There are either work-arounds or updated/older drivers generally help relieve the issue.

A GTX460 would be good back to about 260.99, perhaps the package just before it, but don't go too far back. If drivers or re-installation fails to resolve the issue check to be sure you could try for an RMA.

I'd check your RAM first - if the new RAM is causing your problems, it's likely causing issues with driver loading, not the GTX460. New RAM may not be fully compatible with your setup and/or bad, not timed correctly, or operating out of spec for some reason.

Be sure to eliminate the new RAM as the problem first.

Download rivatuner or afterburner, force constant voltage, and overvolt the current vid. Usually problem solved.

Ok I just did a fresh install of drivers for the gtx460 and I'm gonna try to test it with furmark, it's the burn in test right? How long should I run it to make sure the GPU is working fine?
