Corsair CX500 EPS/ATX12V 8-4 pin Problem

Hey guys, I am currently building a new rig for my cousin and I have a quick question about the EPS/ATX12V 8-4 pin. I have an ASUS mobo that only uses a 4 pin, but the PSU I have is a 8 pin, it has 4 pin connected to another 4 pin.I have read the PSU manual and it says you can take the 8 pin apart, but I can't seem to take it apart. I was wondering if it was okay to just not take it apart and just directly connect and have the other 4 pin just hanging on the side. Also since there is 8 pin does it matter which of the 2, 4 pin I plug in? Thanks!

To my knowledge it doesn't matter which 4pin you plug in. Why take it apart?

8 pin EPS is literally 2 4 pin P4 connectors together.

It doesn't matter how you have them plugged in
