The super work station cards that are $1000-$4000

How do they do at gaming

and how does the $3000

ATI 100-505602 FirePro V9800 4GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 CrossFire Supported Workstation

compare to say a 5970 or 5870 X2

5870x2 and 5970 will wreck the V9800/quadro 6k in games

They are just consumer cards with different BIOSes more Vram, and special divers

if you do cad work, or stuff like that though, the V9800 and other workstation cards will destroy any consumer card.

Crap.
Unlike the server components for CPUs,
the server components for GPUs are crap for games and great for workstation stuff. (CAD as mentioned above)

this and this

unlike CPU's
any other server grade components are not target at us normal consumers
their good at their jobs (autocad, rendering or whatever) but not good at gaming or stuff servers/industry wouldn't do/use

They aren't crap, it's just that the 2 5870s have twice as many SPs.

Now if you compare a single 5870 to a V9800, it would be much closer, now the 9800 would be a little slower because of the CAD optimized drivers, but it would be much closer than comparing it to 2 5870s

Myea, I said "crap" from a Price/Performance in game point of view.
