which is better?

Thread Starter
which is better? a closed liquid cooling system or a custom one?

i have listed the things that each one needs:

Closed:
-No maintenance
-just install and its ready
-very small chance of leakage

Custom:
-Maintenance required
-a lot more expensive
-requires cleaning every 6 moths with tubing replacement and complete flushing (also requiring you to spend money every 6 months for the tubing, coolant/additive, spare parts, thermal compound)

what i want to know is which is better performing? (which one i should go for) i am going to be overclocking a 990X over 4ghz and want one that can keep it's temp LOW.

thanks

Custom is going to be better no matter what, It's a little more maintenance but properly setup will be very effective. There are RASA kit's that are pretty much all in one water cooling loops which are great for beginners or you can piece one together yourself. You DO NOT need to replace tubing every 6 months or coolant for that matter. With Distilled water, some PT nuke and or a Kill Coil, you will have a nice bacteria free loop that doesn't require maintenance every 6 months.

Edit: Here is a nice RASA kit that will work for you.

Buying a $1000 CPU and limiting it with a $100 'fake' water cooling loop like the H50/H70 is a crime. You should go custom loop all the way. It's going to be way better. Not sure where to get those things in Australia, maybe try Google Shopping if that is available?

I don't think you HAVE to get new tube every time you clean the loop.

if you want to do some serious overclock and keep the noise down and get good temps, go custom loop or like rasa kits.

any closed loop system is going to crush your dream with noise and crappy temp

Get some silver from here. Its cheaper to just purchase a small strip of pure (well almost) silver than getting it from a tech shop and its the same thing.

While the EK H30 is a good kit, it's overpriced for what it is.

Also, @ OP

No need to clean the loop out every six months. As long as you install it correctly the first time you won't have any issues with it later on. Martin ran one of his loops for just over 2 years with no maintenance, and when he took it apart it still looked as clear as the day he installed it.
