When a fixed/voiced protagonist is implemented it can create a tight, if not linear, experience.
I assume you didn't like Mass Effect 1 and 2?

I'm still worried about this game. I wasn't going to get it until after I'd heard more about it outside of the demo but after a night of heavy drinking with some friends I drunkenly preordered it via Steam. Ugh.

Two 9/10 reviews from their respective console magazines. Wouldn't they just rate most games high just to trick people into buying games for the console :?

I never said the graphics were crap, I said the new art direction broke continuity, was sophomoric and too cartoonish...
Sorry yeah I was going off pretty much every argument I read in the couple of DA2 posts on here. Wasn't tailoring it to your post specifically. I will go over your points thoroughly soon but I really hope you have watched the video from yesterday that I linked to. It clears up some of your points in real time.

ME1 was entertaining because I love sci-fi(setting doesn't get enough love) and the universe they created was rather intriguing... That said, I didn't like ME1 for it's RPG mechanics(or lack thereof). I don't think it's too shocking that I'm capable of appreciating a game for what it is or tries to be... Thing is, DA:O was marketed as BG's spiritual successor, ME was not. DA2 is a departure from the original intent(tapping the BG and/or DnD fan bases), that is why I am not pleased with it. If it were originally marketed as part Diablo part stereotypical Tolkienesque fantasy setting part JRPG then I wouldn't care too much. As it is, I am disappoint.

Bioware will be releasing a high resolution texture pack for us PC gamers at release, so I'm going to hold off my judgments until then. Also interested in how the game looks with DX11 enabled, may hush up some of those people saying it looks no better then DA:O.

The idea behind creating a sword is either:
- To make it light enough to wield easily.
- To make it heavy enough to damage someone wearing armour.

If you're going to use a sword in a single hand, you want the first. If you're going to use it in two, you want more of the second.
(obviously, you want a mix of both at all times. Don't get me wrong...)

If you can put two hands into the swing of a sword, you instantly have more force, and the longer it is, the more (turning) force you impart, treating it almost as a lever - as the far end will swing faster (think of it as if it were a wheel, where the outside spins faster than the inside).

Basically, if you can still swing it, longer is generally better. The more distance between hands would also allow you to potentially impart more force by using one hand as a fulcrum (pivot) to give more weight to the strength of the other - potentially making the use of a weaker left hand palatable to someone unused to swinging something so heavy.

... The problem with all of that is that you must factor in the character's real strength, and games often go overboard with just how long a sword a person can carry. If you are going to get truly worn out swinging it, for most military purposes, it would have been useless. Battles often lasted twelve hours, and if you couldn't fight solidly for at least six swinging it almost constantly, you were not going to be a very good infantryman.
These Zweihander swords were used by military. They were used as pseudo pole arms. The advantage of these swords were to counter polearms and pikesman. These swords would cut the tip off of a pike, rendering it useless.

Zweihanders could also puncture through metal armor. There is more than one way to use a sword. These were great swords.

There are advantages and disadvantages to every weapon. No reason to write off one weapon just because you don't like it. Why have sniper rifles when its rate of fire is slower than a M16 or AK-47? Every weapon has its merit.
