CPU fan fail

Thread Starter
Hey guys, after the asus bios screen while restarting my computer i noticed an error message saying "CPU heat sink fan failed." When i had a look i noticed that one of the fans stopped spinning however after i just touched the blade with my finger it started spinning again. To get rid of the message i pressed F1 where i was displayed with a "hard disk failed error." After this i restarted my computer via the power button and everything is working normally now.

Just wondering if there is any reason as to why this occurred so i can prevent it from happening again.

Many thanks.

Not sure about the hard drive fail error but if you shutdown and take your fan out give it a good clean and check for anything stopping the fan from spinning, that should stop it from happening again.

The broken fan could have been something stuck in the bearing. If it happens again I'd consider replacing the fan, but as a one off who knows.

As for the HDD - I'd say the same thing. If it repeats itself I'd worry, it may have just been a quick BIOS error that was solved in the reboot.

You should take your fan out and clean it thoroughly, make sure there is no dust or dirt inside the bearings because that can cause it to stop spinning.
Lastly make sure you attach the fan correctly to the motherboard, if it isn't connected correctly it will not spin up and read the Bios message: CPU heatsink fan has failed.

was the hdd cable stuck in the fan?

make sure the cables are seated fully

a little cable management can go a long way
