[NYTimes] Cheap, Ultrafast Broadband? Hong Kong Has It - Page 11

Not sure if its been said yet, but ill take a slower speed that doesnt have a data cap on it any day. I dont NEED to be downloading, while i game and browse the web. Ill happily let downloads process while im at work and then do whatever whenever. And even if i want to, with my normal connection i have i can do them all.

What browsers are you guys using to get those speeds? FF is so freaking slow on that speed test.

Actually your router is Gigabit, your Wireless-n connection that comes from it is 450mbps.

But I still wouldn't trust it. I also have Kaspersky as Blueduck3285, maybe it's messing up with my results too. Do you have Kaspersky too ?

I now do not have Kaspersky and will rerun mine when I get home, though I dont expect my results to change much seeing as even when dling BitT's I hit 23Mb/s, I really do have a fast connection. Helps being near a fiber backbone.

For those that are showing crazy numbers

"This typically happens if something is installed on your computer which is intercepting traffic between your web browser and the server. Examples of this would be security software from ZoneAlarm, McAfee or Symantec. Try momentarily disabling the software to see if it is the source of the problem. Make sure you don't leave it disabled. Any software firewall should work with Speedtest.net if configured properly. For example, with ZoneAlarm you must make sure that none of the boxes are checked in the custom cookie control menu. Note this issue has become increasingly uncommon as we have further developed our technology so if the problem persists please Contact Us."

Source

And for the "your numbers are jacked because of powerboost" people out there

"We have increased the test length and size to better display speeds affected by Powerboost. The real time graphing system will also show if the speeds decrease after the Powerboost time period is over. The end result speed is an overall average of the test."

same Source as above.

Alright I'm going to destroy this thread with the failure that is my internet connection. 80 bucks a month, 15GB dl/5 GB ul rolling caps:

In the average game I usually get about 3000ms worth of lag so anything online is just too frustrating to even attempt playing.

America needs line sharing. Short of that we need broadband as a utility. If the private companies won't put in high speed links then the government should.

You know that 3000ms is 3 seconds right? I can't think of any real-time game that is playable with 3 second lag.
