Why Steam?

Thread Starter
Hi, Can someone please explain the benefits of steam to me?

The only benefit that I can see is it allows you to download a digital copy of the game as opposed to keeping a disc around. Steam is always overpriced, even for games that have been out for years e.g. Call of duty 1(released 2003) is £14.99. On amazon you can get the original including the expansion for £2.57.

It always seems cheaper to get everything off of amazon. But it appears to be very popular so I would like to know why. Thanks

Also, over the last 4 years I have gone through 3 different PC's. Once I move to a new PC I just download Steam. Log in, and download my games right back onto my PC. I don't have to go fishing through boxes or looking for CD's to put games back on...
If I bought a physical copy of a game it would just lay around and take up space on my already cluttered desk, later to get "misplaced" somewhere never to be found again. ( AKA my Wife throwing it away )

No1 rule of Steam.

Never buy a game unless it is in the deals. They have awesome deals and most of the AAA titles are in the sales at least once per year. That's why we love Steam. No one ever pays full price.

This.

Except I download the game once and put it on my external HDD. I have over 100GB of games in my Steam folder in which I can install at any time.

Same.
The Steam backup utility is pretty nice. Each game of mine is backed up on network storage (258 GB), installing over the network takes 1-2 minutes for a game, and it's ready to go.

+1 To you to bro

You dont HAVE to rely on steam, always feel free to get stuff off amazon and add it to steam games list for the steam overlay.

I got 2x Titan Quest for the price i could have got only 1 TQ on steam.

BUT when there is a sale, you will find your wallet is very empty

The sales are amazing. Just recently I bought a four pack (assassins creed, far cry 2, and two other games that I can't recall) for 12.99

Love the in-game overlay feature for steam. Instant live chat, surfing the web in game, etc
