(G)MCH in my Gigabyte GA-P35 DS3R is Northbridge Volts...

It will vary from Q9550 to Q9550 how much V-core it needs for 3.8GHz. It will also vary a little from motherboard to motherboard. Generally, I have the impression that most Q9550 does at least 3.8GHz + at 1.28 Volts (Full load). Keep in mind, this is full load volts. At least the E0 steppings... Not sure about C1 though...

It will vary due to board limitations and memory config. I generally would set 1.3-1.35 for a moderate-high overclock and keep direct air on the NB heatsink.

I personally decrease my CPU multiple and do a complete OC session just to find the settings that max out the mobos FSB, including NB voltage. It may ramp up at the top-end just like CPUs do. For the real high-end FSB (when you get close to 500) you'll need to bump CPU Reference and MCH reference, then bump the MCH core.

I don't know your specific board settings so you may want to post the full list before trying to tune.
