I7-950 Safe Overclock?

Thread Starter
I have been following this site for the longest time scavanging data and hints from forums, So i'd thought i'd join.

Im new to overclocking and i have just got a stable OC from OCCT running for an hour.

My temps are 46-45-44-44 on IDLE and 74-73-71-72 on LOAD.

Basically i would really appreciate it if someone else could give this a look, and find anything at all that would wory them.

(specifically the CPU VTT settings, Im not entirely sure what they should be set at)

My Bios settings are:

Give these settings a shot. 1.41v is WAY too much for 4GHz. Have you tried knocking it down?

If some of those settings are not in your version of BIOS don't worry. Just skip over them.

Also what are the full specs of your RAM kit. This kit? XMS3 1600MHz CL 8 or XMS3 1333MHz CL8?

The ram is the CMX8GX3M2A1600C9 Kit from Newegg.

As for the speed, this puts me at 4.2.

Derp. I didn't see that. Only that you were pumping 1.4v with the 21x multi.

Give the 23x a shot and see if it makes any difference. 23x 183 might work better for temps.

Is that the lowest you can go on the voltage before it becomes instable though?

i gave the 23x 183 a try @ 1.28125 got bsod'd before windows started, tried @ 1.3 failed OCCT instantly.

I'm starting to get the impression that my CPU just needs the Power from Zeus to work.

Maybe 4.2 is too ambitious of a goal for your chip.

I need 1.425v in bios for 4.24 (185x23) windows load is 1.399v

Had to turn off HT tho cause temps were 80c full load which is too hot for my taste. With HT off the temps peak at 68c.... I have a D5 vario and a RX240 on its way, hopefully that will take the peak temps down enough so I can put HT back on.

Here are my current settings for 24/7 clocks & gaming. I have a 4.06 profile saved for when I do video encoding..
Code:

Thanks you guys for your inputs, but ya'll were right my goals were to high. I knocked my speed down to 21x 192 (4.02) and my voltage down to 1.24375 without vdroop.

My temps are now 39-40-40-41 on idle and 68-67-63-65 on load.

I think that seems pretty reasonable for 24/7 use.

(but one thing i'm still not sure about is the Cpu VTT, I have it at +50 giving me 1.2500V. What does this number actually represent?)
