UPDATE my first overclok with the AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition Deneb 3.4GHz

Thread Starter
So far at this point,I have done alot of reading and trial&error.still not even feeling like ive scretched the service.I posted a previous thread when I first started about this subject and got some fast, quick and helpful responses.big ups to those who had there input. So I moved on and ventured off to bring this to the table.Ill start with hardware then my OC settings.PLEASE any and every input I welcome to help me get the best out of my MOBO,RAM,CPU.

HARDWARE

Case-Cooler Master HAF 932 Full Tower Black Case

RAM-Patriot G Series ‘Sector 5’ Edition 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800)

CPU-AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition Deneb 3.4GHz 4 x 512KB L2 Cache 6MB L3 Cache Socket AM3 125W Quad-Core Processor

COOLING-Noctua NH-D14 120mm & 140mm SSO CPU Cooler

Now here it is lets see if im killing my hardware or not

OC SETTINGS

CPU RATIO 17.0x

CPU bus freq 245

DRAM freq 1633 MHZ

CPU/NB freq 2695 MHZ

HT link speed 1960 MHZ

DRAM controler config is all default by the bios i didnt touch
DRAM timing/driving config is also default by the bios i didnt touch this either

CPU voltage 1.5

CPU/NB voltage 1.3
CPU VDDA voltage is set to AUTO by the bios(you have to enter a number)
DRAM voltage is 1.64 (factory voltage is 1.65 on the box)

HT voltage,NB voltage,NB 1.8v,SB voltage are all set to AUTO by the bios

TEMPS

on idle right now just on the internet about 38-39C
when running Prime95 blend test 51-53c full load 100%

I ran Prime95 for 3hrs and 10mins all tests passed until i stopped the stress test.i just passed the 468k test when stopped.no crashes nothing also at the same time during the stress test i burned a movie for my kids and DL WAREZ with core temp running and speedfan yeah yeah i know speedfan.after i stopped the stress test i rebooted and changed the CPU/NB voltage from 1.3 to 1.25.

Thats pretty much what i have as of this moment and anything else ill just edit my post. Please any input will be helpful

also i tried pushing bus freq to 250 but no go it didnt like that so stuck with 245

1.5v isn't completely safe for a chip like that. Thats a BE edition chip, try raising the Multiplier to 18,19 or 20, and try to get the same speed with lower voltage.

i dropped it to 1.45 whats considered safe ranges on volts

ok dropped to 1.45 but no go anything from there to1.4875 hasnt worked so far until now at 1.4875
stress testing now with prime95 to see if it crashes im going to mess with other settings to try and keep this speed or highger and bring down the volts but its been alot of trial and error frustrating its been

Huh? Please elaborate... I have read numerous times on the net that these Black Edition chips can safely handle up to 1.6v?!

I've found in order to achieve 1.2+ GHz of an O/C stable I was forced to up the voltage from the stock 1.4 to 1.55v.

I'm still a beginner at overclocking so I may be wrong, just going by what I have read.

Phenom II x4 safe voltage on air is 1.55V. Even then, this is NH-D14 cooled which is very good.

This looks good to me, you should be ok coming off that vcore a touch and still be stable... also prime95 is ok for some testing, but I found LinX/IntelBurnTest to be the quickest/dirtiest way to see if your "Game Rig" stable. Keep goin!!!!

I don't know where you got that info but it's wrong. 1.55V max safe on air, on water maybe a little bit more but < 1.6V for 24/7.

I just took a CPUID for the 4 Ghz club and my 965 black edition was clocked at 4.1 ghz @ 1.472 V. increase your multiplier a little more over your bus speed. That allows your voltages to stay low. My case temp hasn't been above 35 C and CPU hasnt gone over 35 C either.
