Well, generally LCD panels are divided into 3 different kinds

There's the low quality one: TN panels. 99% of <500$ panels are TN, perhaps even more
Bad viewing angles

There's the rare one: PVA: Which has good colors and viewing angles but lots of ghosting

There's the good one IPS: Which has good colors, good viewing angles, and not a whole lotta ghosting. This is great. It will make TN panels (such as your current panel, with 99% certainty) look like absolute garbage. A necessity for professional photoshopping. Makes it look like you're looking through a window to reality instead of looking at a monitor.

LED refers to using LED lights as backlighting instead of CCFL lights. Most of the time, it might make the display brighter, but it doesn't improve anything else. I could say that LED displays are a gimmick. But they aren't entirely. Just that being LED doesn't mean ANYTHING. It's just another garbage TN panel.

If you want a good display, look at IPS panels such as the following the price categories

Dell U2211
Dell U2311
Dell U2410 (cheaper equivalent with worse colors (especially without calibration) HP ZR24W)
Dell U2711
Dell U3011 (cheaper equivalent HP ZR30W)

Well I was just listing some possible monitors in the price range. But whatever, U2311 added, seeing that it's somewhere in between 2211 and 2410, it could be considered a separate price range.
