Bricked OCZ Vertex??

Thread Starter
I bought my Vertex 30GB about a year and change ago. Never had problems with it. I just recently (as in Friday night) got sig rig up and running. This morning I finally got to actually OC'ing the 2500K. I was doing Prime @ 4.4 GHz on large fft. My monitor was off so I never saw if it was a BSOD or otherwise, but when I went back to check, it was on a startup screen asking me to insert media or reboot and pick a new drive.

I went into UEFI and while looking at thins realized my vertex "wasn't there". Curious... I tried several times to get it to work, I also switched SATA ports around, disconnected the other drives, tried several other SATA cables and a different power cable.

Other than a possible messed up PSU, I think I'm going to be on the phone with OCZ tomorrow... Any other suggestions?

If it doesn't re-appear after disconnecting it from power and clearing CMOS it's in a "panic locked" state and needs to be RMA'd. There is no end user fix for this.

Not familiar with your board being new,but have you tried any SATA 6GBps ports?(if you have any). This could be the faulty SATA 3 chip no?
Does your optical or any other drive show up?

Didn't work, i.e. the drive didn't magically show up after CMOS reset.

I figured as much. Luckily it A) has a 3 year warrantee and B) OCZ is actually pretty good with their RMA's.

Checked and rechecked all the SATA ports (II & III) no dice.

Turnaround might be faster if you RMA through Newegg if you bought it from them. OCZ support is pretty swamped with RMA's right now with their 64Gbit NAND debacle.

I may have to get them on the phone. I did, however, post this problem (and thread) on the OCZ forum to get just another opinion. Will Newegg do an RMA on something that was purchased in February 2010?

have you tried a different computer? It could just be freaking out with your motherboard?

I'll try here at work tomorrow, but the OCZ guys have asked me to put a jumper on the headers on the Vertex tonight for an hour and see if that works.

Tried the jumper trick didn't work. Have a feeling, though, that it's the SATA III ports on the MOBO, as I couldn't see the WD 320 last night either until I plugged it into a SATA II port. The MOBO itself may be borked, which may or may not have taken out the SSD. I'm going to test the drives here at work.
