Display port to DVI

Thread Starter
So I am looking to go Eyefinity on my system, and I need a Display port to DVI adapter, now I have been looking around and some are active and some are non-active - What's the difference?

My primary monitor will be a H213H connected via DVI. (Card - DVI Port)

I have another Dell 17 inch connected via VGA. (Card - DVI port with a VGA adapter)

I will be connecting ANOTHER Dell 17 inch via VGA, but here is my problem. I already have two DVI ports used on my 5770, so I will need to use the Display Port for the 3rd monitor, and at the end of the Display Port to DVI adapter I will be using a DVI to VGA adapter.

So which Display Port to DVI adapter will I need? Active or Non-Active?

you have to have at least 1 displayport connection in a display group for eyefinity, and I believe also to run more than 2 monitors from a single card, period, even if you're not using eyefinity (correct me on this if I'm wrong). this can be done using an actual displayport cable if your monitor has the connection, or through an active displayport dongle (DP to DVI, for example). the active just means it counts towards your 1 displayport connection requirement.

a passive dongle, however does not count as a DP connection. If you have at least legit 1 DP connection, though, you can use a passive dongle to connect DP to HDMI or DVI, to suit your needs.

I recommend monoprice cables for any passive connections you need. they make great cables, and are dirt cheap
