Upgrading Suggestions for a nab :D

Hi guys. I am currently thinking of upgrading my rig but I don't know which to go with.

I currently have:

Processor: Intel Core2Duo E7400 @ 2.80GHz

Motherboard: ECS G31T-M7(v1.0) P35/G33/G31

Memory: 2GB DDR2 800MHz

GPU: NVIDIA GeForce 9400 GT 1GB

I currently struggle with high end games like Black Ops/Star Wars/GTA and etc.

Questions:
1. Are DDR3 GPU's compatible with motherboard? If so, what's the best GPU below let's say $70? Or are DDR5's better with a bit more price?

2. I don't know anything about overclocking, if I overclock, I need a good cooling system yes?If so, what's the best one for less than $20?

Thank you very much. --Hannibal

Yes your already using a PCI-E motherboard, the RAM used on the Video card is separate not the same as DDR3 and DDR2 yours and mine use.

Unfortunetly the below 100$ price range is a tough cookie because it is heavily attributed by production cost which is regardless going to cost a fair amount for even low-medium end cards.

Best bang for the buck I current see in the new market is this:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130535

With Main in rebate is 60$ which is pretty good.

But I wager either looking into the used market, craigslist, or try and get a bit more.

Pound for pound, right now the 6850 gives most FPS/$

There are plenty of decent coolers you can get but your looking closer to the 20-30$ range.

I'd recommend:

Combine that with either thermal paste provided or some Artic MX-4 (My favorite so far... not too keen on the Artic silver 5 >_>)

Welcome to OCN btw

I would need a good PSU when I get a new GPU right? I am not sure what PSU I am on now though.

Yes, you would need a solid power supply. Probably a solid 350-400w unit for your build with a sub $100 GPU included in it would be just fine. It just depends on what unit you're running now. As a mediocre 550-600w would probably work just as fine.
