Windows fails to boot past Windows screen.

Hey guys I wasn't sure whether to ask this in the CPU section or Windows. But recently I tried OC'ing my Sempron 140 and every time it would give me the error screen which would ask whether I would like to start windows normally, Safe mode, last known good configs, etc. No matter which option I would choose It would sometimes load past the windows screen but always reboot. So I figured my OC wasn't stable and I decided to bring everything back to stock settings. I cleared my CMOS and tried rebooting; however, I again got the windows error screen and after trying every boot option it gets past the windows screen but then blacks out and reboots. Could it be that I corrupted my windows files?

Yes, the OS might be corrupted. I would try a Windows repairs to see if it can be restored. Hard drive could be another issue also.

Alright well I reinstalled windows and it was the same problem. So then I decided to disable the extra core that I unlocked and voila it booted perfectly. Well I guess that solves that, now I just have to reinstall all my drivers.....haha. Thanks for the input tho.

I'm not to familiar with intel mobos. But to unlock a hidden core on an AMD motherboard you need the ACC (Advanced Core Calibration) feature enabled. For me the issue was that my second core was bad therefore it wouldn't boot into windows. After I disabled ACC it works fine. Also when I increased my FSB and lowered my multiplier I got the same problem, the fix for me was increasing Vcore and NB voltage. I wouldn't increase them more than a single increment ea.

Also what CPU are you OC'ing and what have you tweaked so far?

That happened to me last week. I had to install another Windows install on my harddrive and kill the old Windows install.
