please don't discuss the idea of using a leaked copy as a preload. it's too close to the line...

You must have not given this game the slightest glance.

How? I legitimately own the game. What is even remotely "close to the line" about that? It's simply a way for people who own the game to be able to play it right when it launches just incase Steam doesn't do a pre-load.

Obviously the game wasn't put up for the sole purpose to pre-load the game. Even if you own it you're not getting it the legitimate way. I personally don't care, it is convenient. Just saying I can see the issue.

What difference does it make how you get it as long as you paid for it?

*Note - I'm not saying that it's okay to go buy a bootleg copy obviously (in response to the derps who'd respond with "Durr well what if I paid the Asian guy on the corner, I paid for it, right?")

is it wrong to wait for the copy you did pay for to be unlocked and available for download?

i went and asked a senior and was told that that kind of discussion is too close to the line. hence my comment.

as to why it's close to the line is because you're downloading a copy that's been released earlier than you're supposed to have it.

And? I'm not playing it (I wouldn't even be able to if I wanted as it uses Steamworks). I'm simply having it ready to go for when it does LEGITIMATELY unlock, rather than waiting 12 hours for it to download because the servers are swamped.

Crysis 2's leak was such a big deal because the game isn't yet complete. It was a work in progress in which Crytek was still working on, and it must have came straight from Crytek themselves.

Homefront, on the other hand, has already gone gold. It's slated for release on the 15th, which means THQ has already started to mass-produce hard copies of this game, such as DVD's and physical media. This Homefront leak is ripped directly from this physical media, which is taken from major retail outlets. This isn't uncommon in the pirating scene, where you can see a game hit torrent sites as early as a few weeks before release, to a few days.
This, pretty much.
It's not uncommon. And I suppose it has something to do with security. Or someone paying good $$$ for this (*puts on a tinfoil hat*)...

It doesn't matter for what reason you do it. You shouldn't do it regardless.
