When talking about reference designs: they're the exact same card both silicon wise and physical board wise with the only difference being 2 extra negative plugs. Doesn't matter though, 6970 is the right way if moneys not an issue.

The reference cards have the possibility to have the bios flashed to that of a 6970. Even if it doesn't work, the card has a bios switch allowing you to go to a fail-safe (it's like AMD wants you to flash it!) Then you still have a 6950, which is a decent card.

The MSI TwinFrozrIII Power Edition has just been released,so I would wait a few days for them to hit the stores.Clocked at 850 core 1300 memory.Makes no difference that it doesn't unlock a few shaders because with a little overclock it beats the 6970.It does have a dual bios btw.

Reference cards are all the same component wise. Currently at Newegg the cheapest is the MSI, so just get that. How To: Flash 6950 to 6970 Guide

First I think you need more than just a "little overclock" to match performance of a 6970... Secondly that's a silly statement because obviously the 6970 can overclock too...

Priced right at $ripoff.

Dude, you can get a Sapphire 6970 for 360 AR or a HIS 6950 for 260 AR (or Sapp 6950 for 257 AR) at Amazon. They have no penalty returns so if yer not happy return it.

Both the MSI (comes with 3dmark11) and PowerColor 6970s are $320 AR, pretty pointless to get the Sapphire if he was going that route.

Cheap if yer not in Cali. This is why I never even bother referencing them Even at 320 it comes to 356 AR to my door. And then with Amazon I don't have to worry about... well dealing with Newegg!
