processor upgrade for toshiba help

Hi everyone, I'm new here and i'm looking for some help. I have a toshiba satellite A205 s4777 with a t5450 processor and i would like to upgrade to a t5850. from my limited knowledge and research it seems like it can be done. My question is just that. can this be done? and if so is there anything else that is involved other than taking everything apart and swapping out the processors?
there is no real huge reason for me doing this other than i like to mod stuff. i like speed and performance and thats all i can say. i use my laptop for everything, from college note taking to media on my TV.
thanks for your input

Of course it can be done. It's not soldered into the motherboard. Basically buy the new chip, take apart the laptop. Replace the old CPU with the new CPU. Apply some TIM and put it back together and you're off. Make sure you have the latest updated BIOS so it recognizes your CPU. But also, make sure before you do go ahead and purchase it, that' it's compatible with your laptop. Google is your friend on that one.

Most of the time it is as easy as you have described. Just open your laptop up, take out the old one, pop in the new one, and your good to go. As mentioned above, a BIOS update might be manditory to support the better processor. Other than that, you should be good to go . Also, just to be safe it is recomended that you chech the wattage of your current CPU and the one you are planning to use just to be a little "extra sure."

So i looked into the bios update and i dont know which i should download because for my model (a205) i cant find one that uses the processor that i want to put in it (t5850)

the only one that i found that uses that processor is the toshiba satellite p305 series (P305-S8837). would i need to update my existing bios or update with the bios from the p305 series?

Toshiba models are exceptionally difficult to open. I'm still looking for a way to manage doing it without breaking something. XD

There is a guy here on OCN who is currently selling a t7200, but I don't know if it will work with your laptop

Not sure about Toshiba, but I know with my Dell. They have a manual you can download that tells you how to take it apart. Not sure if that's the case with Toshiba.

I think my fsb is too slow to run that one. Mine is like 667mhz and that one is more I think. Sure wish I could run that one though
