Help... Overclocked 9950 BE problems!

Thread Starter
Well, i have a quad core amd phenom 9950 BE. I oced it through AMD overdrive to a bit above 3ghz. Temps on all cores reached 70 degrees. So, i stopped autoclock. The temps dropped immediatly to about 60 degrees. I applied settings. and stupidly brought the multiplier up to 16 from 15. My system crashed right away.

Now ever since. i have drastically reduced performance out of all games. All settings in Bios are correct, all clocks and voltages are stock.

For example: I used to get 100-200 fps in CS:S. I now get 30-100 fps....

Did i damage my CPU? Also the weirdest thing now is my CPU core temps are 10 degrees lower than they ever used to be. nothing is downclocked..

the original phenoms are really bad for overclocking.
you should not have damaged the cpu if the computer shut down immediately though.

the processor may have downclocked itself, or you may have lost a core (highly unlikely though)

Overclock manually and only use as much voltage as you need.

check it all in bios. and set there. using windows based overclocking software is flakey at best. i have a 9850 in my other rig and runs at 3.2 all day long. not even a hickup. but its on water and, 70 is 10 over the max for the chip 60c' is the max on these phenoms. u may have damaged it. but it should have shut down before then.

Reset CMOS, yes. That's your best option, atm.

EDIT : If it shut down immediately it's nearly impossible for the CPU to be heat damaged.

Well i reset cmos and redid the bios. I ran Left 4 Dead 2 to check performance and it appears i have a gpu driver issue. So im rolling back to an older ati driver right now. But i dont see how my gpu could have been affected from the cpu OC fail.
