I love Australia but I wish things were so dirt cheap like in America...

Still lands you under $400, and for rendering HT will help you. Not to mention as we move into the future more and more apps are becoming multithreaded, so the more threads the better!
I think you're on to something here but I do not do that much rendering and I only do it for my own entertainment (nothing work related). I'm familar with the benchmarks and honestly, the 2500K suits me fine. I'm gonna OC the hell out of it anyway but I'll think about what you've suggested since I have 1 more day to make my decision.
BTW...nice find

Thought about that but I'm not trying to spend the money they're asking for when they are released. $250 for a SATA6G SSD 128gb ?...I like the $109 for the C300 better

but the new gens MIGHT drop the price on the current ssd's. if you wait, save the money, and the price doesnt drop, youd spend the same amount, if it does drop, you save some cash so it can be a win-win situation.

If you're willing to go $30 over budget, you can get the best of all worlds: a fast SSD, a fast HDD, and a Core i5 2500k.

Samsung Spinpoint F3 1TB: $65

Crucial RealSSD C300 64GB: $135

Intel Core i5 2500K: $230

Total (shipping is free): $430

I can get the same combo you're suggesting for $406 (after tax) @ MicroCenter. My question is will I see a huge difference between the SpinPoint and my current Caviar Black 500mb if being used for storing only working files & games? If not, it would just make sense just to buy the C300 and continue to use my CB 500mb. Storage size is really not a major priority but would be worth it if there is truly a substantial performance increase based on my usage.

I say get the Samsung Spinpoint F3 for now and wait until the new SF-2000 based SSDs are released probably in the next month or two.

I would say get the 2500k and spinpoint hdd for 308 and get a cheap say 32GB SSD for the OS for around 80 bucks and you're still under 400. Unless you get a substantially large SSD you'll only benefit from boot times with the OS and whatever apps you can squeeze on it. When z68 comes out and you can use SSD caching, overall performance should be insane... The only reason I'm not waiting for z68 is because there is no telling how much the mobos will cost, and I don't have money for a SSD anytime soon lol.

These will handle the OS and a little extra

and if you feel like dealing with a $20 MIR
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820139162

another thing to consider, how much of your 500GB hd is being used? if it's not a lot then sure, get a larger ssd and just use it, but if you're running out of space get a 1TB drive.

Or buy a couple more 500GB hds and set up a RAID to increase performance and reliability. 2 more 500GB disks and you can set up RAID 5; 3 more you can set up RAID 10

If I buy a SSD, I need at least 64gb...anything less is unacceptable. Also, I have no interested in a raid setup as of now.
