Best way or program to back up windows before a fresh install

In a few days I'll be getting a new mobo and will be doing a fresh install of windows for this

I have quite a few games and programs Installed so I was wondering the best way to back everything up

My os drive is a vertex 2 120gb and I also have a 1tb caviar black for storage

Right now I have alot if games including steam and some programs on the mechanical drive so if I reinstall windows I shouldn't have to reinstall any of that u don't think

You will most likely have to reinstall your programs you installed on your HDD. Now for Steam games, I'm not sure how it works. I know you can back them up through the Steam software.

you can backup data, not programs. if you reinstall the OS, you generally have to reinstall all of the programs just so they work right.

You could do what I do, and use Clonezilla to make backup images of my SSD, so I have something to fall back on with my OS. That way, you only really need to reformat the SSD and reinstall onto it (though, I recommend secure erasing the SSD before reformatting).

As for Steam, just keep your steamapps folder on your mechanical, reinstall Steam on the new Windows install, and then copy-paste your steamapps folder in place.

Thanks guys. I think I will be ok with the steam folder since it is all on the mechanical

And as I thought I'll just have to save a folder with all the shortcuts of programs on my ssd so I can remember what I had installed on it.
