Ars is saying that the iPad 2 CPU doesn't show much speed improvement and may be using 2x A8 cores instead of A9 cores. Makes sense since when you look at the SunSpider benchmark, you can see that most of the performance increase actually comes from iOS 4.3

Looks like the Xoom is right on par with the IPAD2. My Froyo Dell streak does 5050 in the test....I think apple is the one who is trying to play Catchup with the Android tablets now. Because later this year quad core android tablets will be coming out and that should pretty much blow apple out of the water at least until a year after they release the ipad2 when they release ipad3.

This test even shows its faster than the IPAD2

Even I admit that's a pretty remarkable upgrade from one model to the next and I'm surprised Apple actually made such a performance jump. Xoom and iPad 2 are both 1GHz dual cores, but I think the Xoom takes the cup with the Tegra, and Android of course. That's comparing an $800 Xoom to a $500 iPad, so no doubt the iPad will succeed over the Xoom if Motorola doesn't roll out a 16GB and/or 8GB model to even the price war.

Can you provide a source for your findings on the 500$ price?

Pretty well known for a while now. No doubt at all, the Xoom is probably a better performer, it just has a ridiculous price tag. Tablets are pointless in general IMO, I don't care for one until they're in the $100-$300 range.

how processor intensive is the sunspider benchmark?

i just ran it while watching my processes and my CPU never got above 52%. so is this really a good indication of how the device will actually preform? why not run peacekeeper, that seems to tax the processor much more than sunspider?

edit: i just ran it in firefox while using only 45% of the CPU i get a 3x worse score than in safari?

I can't believe I was able to return my 32GB Ipad after exactly 89 days to Target where I got it as a Christmas Gift for my 12 year old son. We returned it with 40 minutes left on the return policy!! I got a full refund (Store Credit) ,and will be getting him the Ipad2 as soon as they come in to Target. I am not counting on them getting them in on Friday ,but ,no biggie.Just glad to bee getting one!!
