I disagree with them, the SunSpider isn't a multi-threaded benchmark. The 60% improvement probably comes from having one whole A9 core just for the web browser and the other core for background tasks, anything else, etc., unlike the iPad 1 which has to share its only A8 core with background tasks, etc.

According to reviews she's lightning fast. Everything should open quicker, all apps should get a speed boost and can also be coded specifically to take advantage of the second core if they don't already use multi-threaded APIs. Pages swipe more smoothly, web browsing is snappier, everything is snappier.

I'm excited about the GPU. Up to 9x the performance of the previous iPad is pretty good, it's at least got an SGX543MP2 in it.

Haha, it'll be cool to run GeekBench 2 on iPad 2

Wait, so you're telling me a next gen dual core beat out a single core last gen processor? no way! [/sarcasm]

CNET needs to pick equivalent hardware Xoom ftw?

the claims they make are completely wrong. Anyone with a brain should be able to see that in order to test speed, they have to have the software be comparable if possible. Their claim is based on the ipad1 on 4.2 OS vs ipad2 on 4.3.

What they should have written is that the time for ipad2 is 30-40% less than ipad1 with the test. way to try to sensationalize the article, cnet

For fun I ran this on my Dad's Motorola Xoom since these people conveniently left it out of this test.

My results: 2077.1ms

EDIT: I'd like to emphasis that I'm not posting this to show the iPad is the best in this test against Android slates, as the XOOM isn't in there yet. It's just to show good numbers for the iPad 2, and devices on iOS 4.3 for anyone who's interested.
I'm sorry, but the Nexus S....ummm...That's a phone... And they're comparing the iP2 to last year's Galaxy tab... This is a sad piece of reporting by Cnet.

Well I don't see it "thrashing" android but merely beating it by just a little bit. I don't see why they couldn't just put the Xoom scores in there, oh right so that they could say they "thrashed" android.

Lol

Then we'll get to see how the newer Android tablets perform: LG G2 Slate, Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, HTC Flyer, etc.

I will say though that the IPhone 4 gains with the new iOS 4.3 Beta are pretty impressive.

On my iPad now, and to be honest with you all now... I am kind of looking at it, and am tempted to upgrade, even though I know it isn't really worth it considering i will have to shell out 2-300$ on the upgrade... It is looking nice though, especially with that speed boost, and having it not affect the battery life at all All my current iPad needs is a speed boost, although maybe I will just wait for iPad 3, because my iPad 1 does get the job done right now.
