People say that they notice an improvement in alt-tabbing responsiveness in and out of games with 8GB, if that is the least bit interesting to you. Also if you do any intense multitasking with several high RAM usage applications, then it could help. But if you are pretty much only running a game without doing anything else really, then you shouldn't notice a difference. They say most games don't bring RAM usage up to more than about 3GB or so, from what I've heard. Excluding a few games that are complete RAM whores (I don't remember which games, they weren't any FPS's and weren't any that I have or play).
I personally got 8GB for my new rig because the 8GB kit of my RAM happened to be on sale right when I was buying it. So I figured why not, for very little more.
