New sound cards coming out soon?

Hi,

I recently purchased some Audio Technica AD700 headphones. I was going to also buy a Asus Xonar DX to complement it, but its out of stock everywhere here in Hong Kong. The shops tell me its not really available anymore. They had the higher end models in stock, but those were kind of out of my budget. I'm not a big fan of the DS/DG models either, since the PCI interface is probably going to be obsolete soon. Haven't looked at the Creative models, but from my readings on this forum, it seems that its hard to beat the DX in terms bang for the buck.

Then I realized one thing - most of these Asus sound cards seem to be released in around 2008. It has been 3 years already. I would certainly feel pretty dumb if I bought one now and next generation ones are released shortly after. Has any heard news of any new sound cards coming out in the near future (whether it be from Creative or Asus or any other brand)?

Thanks.

Sound cards don't progress as fast as videocards. You can be assured that if you buy one today that 6 months later down the road they will most likely not have a newer model that will be so much more better than what you already had.

The safe route would be to get a PCIE sound card but still PCI will be around for quite a while. Everything would have to be offered in PCIE format for PCI to disappear. It took a while to get rid of AGP and ISA slots. You would think that PCI would go along with it also but it is still useful and is still around.
