X-Fi Xtremegamer detection problems

Thread Starter
Not usually one to ask these sort of things, but this is driving me mad, so I have to ask...

Okay, so, yesterday I was replacing the sound card in dad's computer with my X-Fi Xtremegamer, since I just recently replaced it with the Xonar DS.
I went through the usual process of uninstalling the old sound drivers and all, went to install the X-Fi and the installation went smooth. After rebooting, I go and look to make sure it installed correctly... no such luck (somewhat).
It's showing the card as installed, but when I go under the sound option it says "No Audio Device" or w/e. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but to no avail, same problem. It's honestly got me stumped, and I have no idea where to go from here. Any help as to the problem would be most helpful.

Relevant specs (in case needed):

ASUS P5G41-M LE/CSM mobo
Intel Pentium Dual-Core E6500 Processor clocked at 2.93GHZ
Kingston 2048MB PC5400 DDR2
GeForce 9800 GT 1GB
Seagate 320GB Serial ATA HD

I'm having the same problem at the moment with Win7 and my X-Fi extream music.

When I reboot I lose all audio settings and if I try to launch the Creative console I get an error saying something like "no audio device connected"

If you go to > Start > right click computer > properties > device manager, then click on your creative sound card and uninstall it.
Once it's uninstalled click on update driver software (search automatically), that should get it working again... until you reboot at least.

I've yet to find a permanent fix, after searching the net all I can find is it "might" be a windows update causing the problem, but no one is sure which one or if that really is the problem .

Did you install the latest XtremeGamer driver and run the Creative updater? There are a ton of updates on top of the driver available online at the Creative site.

Thank you both for your replies. I however solved the problem shortly after posting this and forgot to mention it til now.
Anyway, simply updated the drivers and rebooted. It somehow "fixed" it and started detecting the sound card after doing so. Idk how that solved it, or why I didn't think of it til then, but I ain't complaining.
