[EN] Western Digital drops $4.3 billion to acquire Hitachi GST, enter staring contest - Page 2

Personally, I'll never deal with WD again. Bought a refurb'd HDD from them on newegg for my little brother, was DOA, and they [WD] wanted us to pay shipping to get it to them to get it fixed / replaced.

Called the egg back up and they accepted a full return, and we turned around and bought a seagate HDD.

So, as long as WD doesn't buy out Seagate, I'll be alright.

For anyone that cares, WDC stock is up 8.5% in after hours trading, so investors like the acquisition.
Edit: 9.2% now

I see no problem with Hitachi. I've been using their Deskstar 500GB model for almost 3 years now and it hasn't had a problem yet.

Yup
My Hitachi has been completely reliable.

I buy nothing but WD and have had no problems. My 1 TB green drive is extremely slow at defragmenting but that is the only issue I have ever had.

I guess it's personal preference and experience.

Had a couple of Samsungs, lasted ~2 years. Not too bad.
Bought Seagate, lasted few days. Never again.
Bought few WDs, no failures yet (oldest is ~6y, I believe), my preferred brand of choice.

SSD's: no experience, but Intel only.
