Help with Overclocking my Q6600 more than 3.6GHZ

Thread Starter
Hey all!
im running my Q6600 on 3.6GHZ on 1.406V VCORE
1.4V MCH CORE
CPU TERMINATION 1.4V
stable 20 linx loops.
temps are awesome less than 40 at gaming and like 49 full load. (watercooled).
anyway i want to push it over 3.6GHZ
but my question is if its safe to run this on like 1.55Vcore
and to get stability to what should i give more voltage?
also my MB is GA ep45-ud3lr and when i put the clock higher and some voltage and i run linx it wont do a blue screen of death.
but it shuts down outmaticly and than turning on again by it self(like after 2 sec).

why is this?

THX!

running your CPU with 1.55Vcore will always represent some risk, but there are many users that were able to run their Q6600 with 1.52-1.55 for some time without problems. As long as you can keep its temps down you should be OK i guess. But, not all voltage bumps will mean better OC stability, as not all depends on the CPU. What is your default spec RAM speed? If you have a DDR2-800 kit, FSB higher than 400 will automatically be OCeing your RAM, unless your board doesn't link FSB and RAM speed, and OCeing your RAM can be tricky, as there are many kits that can't go much higher that its specs.

About the crash, it is possible that it really was a BSOD, but disappeared so fast that you couldn't see it. Do you have automatic restart in startup and recovery option disabled? so it won't restart in case of BSOD?

850MHz of a 800MHz RAM kit? at least for 425FSB you'll should be alright, wich means, up to 3.8GHz your RAM shouldn't knock you down.

What BIOS options are you asking? Automatic restart needs to be disabled in windows.

Righ-click on computer(my computer)-> properties->advanced system settings->advanced tab->startup and recovery panel- definitions/settings-> uncheck automatic restart.
I am not sure if the windows areas are correct, as i always had my Win7 in portuguese, but should be like that...

One thing I can suggest but its always your wish to decide or not. 3.6Ghz is already enough with your current video card even if you had a 560Ti its already enough. Past 3.5Ghz doesn't show much bottleneck. You don't really need to overclock further just to increase FPS. You'll just degrade it really fast since you are playing unless you are just going to do minor things but I assume you are overclocking for more performance.

But maybe you are willing to buy a new system and wait for your current system to die on you soon.

Ye well my HD5770 is now dead vuz of liquid...
Anyway i dont want to kill it no no.
But i want performence also since im using 8600GT and i play games that loves cpu i want to OC it more.
And THX matroska its in the right place and i disables it.
Now ill try pushing it more.
Lets see if it handles first 3.8GHZ on 1.5V

Every time i put it more than 3.7GHZ it just shuts down after a time instead of blue screen of death.
Anyway i hear i should put MCH reference 69% of mch core.
And cpu reference 67% of cpu termination.
Well both mch core and cpu termination are on 1.4V.
So it should be 0.871V for cpu reference, and 0.897V for mch reference.
But i dont have an option to put on those so i did cpu reference 0.870V
and mch reference on 0.886V.
Is this ok?
Also what is (G)MCH Frenquency Latch?
