Alright i will load defaults, set my ram at around 1600mhz and put vcore at 1v for 3.066mhz when i get home then Will let QPI be on auto and just put Dram volt on 1.64xxx aswell for my memory.

I shall bring news of this in roughly 1 hour from now! Thanks for trying to help me guys, hopefully i can get this thing sorted out.

as for the ram, you are not gonna make it work at 2000. very few i7 9xx cpus work with 2000+mhz memory. because in i7 9xx platform you have to set unxore frequency 2x of your ram frequency which is kinda impossible without insane IMC voltage. set your ram multiplier lower and tighten the timings instead.

CPUs vary in leakage and even if cooling, voltages, and speeds are identical, two chips of the same model may run at very different temperatures. You could just have a hot running chip.

However, 98C is quite warm for 4GHz with 1.35v (and if that is load voltage that is also a very high voltage for 4GHz), I would double check contact area and mounting pressure.

Also, it's not likely you will get DDR3-2000 to run at it's rated speed on an i7 950 and trying to use the XMP profile will likely overvolt the uncore (qpi/vtt) to risky levels.

Yep.

Note though that this only applies to Bloomfield (920-960).

Gulftowns (970, 980x, 990x) only need the uncore at 1.5x DDR rating.

You must have an early DO chip then. From what I understand, the early DO 920 and 930s run at lower voltages stock than later ones. I purchased mine in august 2010 and my batch number is in my system specs. When did you get yours? I'd be interested to know what voltage you show in bios if you set llc to level 1 then set core voltage to normal. My friend has a chip like yours that he purchased one week earlier than me from the same place, but he wont overclock at all...and he wont trade with me either, not even with some cash involved

I do need to do some undervolting for some efficient stock settings. I'm going to use your voltages as a guide, scaled up of course.

On another note, does anyone know why intels manufacturing got worse in terms of core voltages the longer the do stepping was out? Were they afraid of canabalizing the new more efficient sandy bridge? I've read guides that recommend 1.8175 as core voltage for a do 930 @ 3.8. I can run windows at that no prob, but p95 or ibt will bsod that quick.

Funny how i started out with a Sabertooth X58, i7 950 and Vengeance memory... Mobo had a faulty northbridge getting insanely hot (90c) and memory's cooling fin thingy just came right off one stick -.- I think i've the worst luck when it comes to fixing my OWN computer, every time i help a friend or something build a computer it turns out a beast but mine just faces problem after problem.

Gonna check the CPU and cooler in a while i guess (probably this weekend) and if it is any problem with the CPU i will RMA it and tell em to give me a 2600K instead and sell my mobo and RAM seperate and just get a good new mobo and 16gb of XMS3 memory or something...
I'll almost guarantee that the ihs on the cpu is concave. Thermalright manufactures their heatsink bases with this in mind. I lapped both my cogage and cpu and had almost iddntical performance as nonlapped. However, lapped cpu and concave nh-d14 don't mix.

Alright i've actually managed to run prime95 for 30 minutes in stock speed using 1 volt vcore, ram was at 1600mhz 9-9-9-24 1.64v and it completed 30 min without BSOD. Fans are still going around 1k rpm.

Idle temps according to Realtemp GT is 33c and my max load temp during prime was 54c which is good i guess? Wonder why 0.2v makes a 20c difference :/ Not that odd i guess but still...

0.2v is quite a lot, maybe not enough for 20c but still a lot.

yes i had a few 920s and this 930. had 3 920 c0s and 1 920 do and this 930do. 920 was 1volt stock 2nd one was .975volts stock 3rd never ran stock then sold. 930 is just a better chip. .95 volts lowest i had, thats why i kept it. Also keep the multiplier on a odd # like 21X133 even numbers trend to fail .And yes .2 volts is alot. i got almost all volts and configs on paper. THe more phase power you got going to chip cleaner the power is. thats why i got this mobo. (3rd x58 chip) better overall. @ same volts it was 5degs cooler. I like under 70 deg cooled chip. i know i can take chip farther then i got it but no real point. Also if your not doing alot of coding or folding turn off ht that will drop temps and volts a few

What u recommend me trying next? i got 23x133 i think atm, which is stock.

Should i perhaps try 23x165 @ 1.1v or is that to little u think?

Also, my mobo has 2x8 pin connectors for CPU, does it matter if i only use 1 or should i use both? Though i only think that is for extreme OC'ing right?
