I am 5 hours into the game and I still find the need for RedBull to keep me awake. I am exploring Kirkwall and I am taking my time. I am still waiting for the game to pick up. In any case, why did BioWare dumb the game down like this? In origins and awakening I had the best armours and swords as a mage and now I seem to be confined to ... boring mage stuff .

I'm in the same boat. It's beginning to feel so uninspired. Character model details are mediocre at best. And the lack of being able to zoom out enough to see your whole party during combat is really annoying and cumbersome. Shame, because I really wanted to like this game.

This. It's SO obvious they only really made about 3 different dungeons/housed and just reskinned or blocked off parts of them. After the first game was so successful, why does it feel like they only had half the budget for this one?

Budget? or time...

Dragon Age was originally announced in 2004... released in 2009...
Dragon Age 2 was released 15 months after Origins...

or... 12 months after the major expansion pack: Awakenings.

I vote that EA rushed the release of Dragon Age II to capitalize on the popularity of the title, but also pushed the developers to make it more accessible and even to cater more towards the masses:
The new art style, they thought would look better to the kiddies... the more hack and slash action orientation of the game... even the Mages have blades on the bottom of their staves.

Time is the reason that the HD Texture pack was released on day one. Time is the reason for ****ty DX 11 support. The game was made in DX9 for the consoles, and they didn't have time to properly support DX 11. The 360 is what it was developed for, then ported to the PS3 and the computer...

I imagine EA was pushing them pretty hard to get the sequel out the door. Especially considering the patched in textures and nvidia problems.

And reading things like this:

I don't really care for their excuses.

At first I though the game would end after the confrontation with the Qunari which would have sucked.
I lost Isabella then too. Thought she would come come back but never did
Then I thought there would be more after Meredith but there wasn't and that sucked
If I knew the game was ending there I would have done the high Dragon b4 Meredith
Wasn't too happy about the lack of healers in the game either
After my sister died I had no choice BUT Anders and I didn't really like him but I stood by him after he blew up the building because i needed him

This game turned out to be just a little bit longer than awakening. for me anyway which is way too short
DX11 was poorly optimized. Only able to play on high at dx11 with high res texture pack
They should have kept the origins theme going. Humans as the only option is a little lame.
So if i want to replay it the beginning will be the same regardless
They still have wayyyyyy too much blood. dunno why. I guess in the DA universe people bleed a lot
Their logo is everywhere for whatever reason
Maybe they should have focused more on making the game better instead placing the logo everywhere?
Origins was a much better game a 9/10 or 10/10 in my book. I'd rate DA2 a 6/10 and that's being generous

As I said, I barely scratched the surface and I feel no compelling "force" to advance and see what will happen next. The references, so far, to Morrigan, Ferelden, Ostagar, the Grey Wardens are nice but seem empty. For the first time ever, I am inclined to agree with the reviews. IGN had a very good one and the cons they found are the ones I found too.

If ME3 suffers the same fate, I think BioWare is slowly joining the "making a quick buck" group.


Shame really ... I spent money on this and I am supporting BioWare but they let EA push them around and publish things that are not ready. The game has bugs. When you look at things to buy and browse from your character and then swap to other characters to see how many stars the items have you will notice that when you swap back to your character, you quit the buy menu and end up with your character menu.
