This game is good!
Well, although I understand that the story is less on the grandiose side than Origins, it is still good.
The beginning does a very good job of boring you though... That ugly devastation scenery, those boring darkspawn (had to make difficulty higher to put some challenge into it), and the fact you have to repeat the ogre sequence, all help people getting frustrated with it... and then you get to Kirkwall and the game gives you the impression you have possibly one year of slave labor ahead.
After that, when it really starts it is quite good.
But I must admit, Bioware has done worst with it on the technical side than it usually does. Almost gave up on Dx11 at first cause it was, well, broken on the latest non-beta nvidia drivers. After upgrading to the 270s it improved nearly 500% (as nvidia claims,
). Even though, the depth of field effect is poorly coded as it makes the faces of your party members blur as you move the camera around (not in a natural way, in an ugly, dirty-lenses kind of way).
Visuals are great overall. No denying that.
It was, nevertheless, very ridiculous to find an exact copy of King Cailan's Armor selling cheap in the streets of kirkwall... I mean, couldn't they take the time to design a new one and never repeat that design again!? And the same motif (dragon face on the chest plate) is repeated yet again on Aveline's guardsman plate..
Also, some swords and other weapons look like they came from the Final Fantasy reject-bin
(Carver's sword for one). No need for realism on an RPG game but Final Fantasy style is just sooo exaggerated! But that's just my taste anyway.
Hawke is cool, if a little on the bland side... like if he doesn't really care about much - especially if you choose the sensible dialogue options. Would be nice if we had other voices to choose for him (understandably that would mean a ton of work and money to Bioware, so hehe, nevermind that
My last critic is that Hawke's sister is the cutest girl so far. She had to be his sister?!
Anyways, it is a great game once you get the right drivers and I am happy I bought a copy!
