[CVG]New Blizzard MMO will 'blow people's minds' - Page 12

Man, I don't get why everyone is so upset over people wanting to play a game and are willing to pay for it. If you enjoy to the point where you are an avid player than the subscription fee might be worth it to you (Remember the 'worth' of something is different for each individual). Think about it this way, you get hours of entertainment for $15 a month which is about as much for a 2hr. 3D IMAX movie. Not much at all if you put a lot of time into the game. Even looking at the $180 a year, I spend much more than that just buying different games that aren't all that great. And for someone with disposable income, that's a drop in the bucket.

If you like Sci-fi and fancy flying spaceships instead of animal mounts, you could try EVE Online.

However, the learning curve can be quite daunting, and movement works more or less like an RTS instead of direct control.

Ugh. As a former CS 1.6 clan officer who saw all the money that went into paying for the servers, teamspeaks/ventrillos, websites/forums for a community to work well.. this "free" attitude is greatly annoying.

As for WoW's monthly subscription.. it's really no different. 15 bucks a month for constant server connection with upkeep and updates and tech/game support.

Oh and in a later post you mention CS started online fps gaming.. lol no. But it certainly redefined the genre with the tactical fps shooter gameplay it brought. Personally I came from Rainbow 6 and Eagle Watch (old MSN gaming zone which created peer to peer lobbies and lagged like a mofo) online.. yeah.. thats right.. online! Jumped into CS around beta 5 (anyone remember back then before the Aug existed and the M4 was perma-silenced and could zoom as the 2nd function.. good times) and played till COD4 came out. Got tired of NOT being rewarded for getting the drop on someone. 8 hits for 86 damage and similar nonsense annoyed me, it became all twitch gameplay and real tactics have long since fallen by the wayside. Those of you who played before the game went retail will remember the glory days of CS, the community quality fell off after retail.

Anyway.. complaining about the monthly fee of WoW while playing games like CS and COD and BC2 and many others is silly. Just cause you are enjoying the free ride for online play doesnt mean someone else isn't paying.. not only for themselves but YOU too!

(ps. go donate to your favorite server's clan!)
Your argument is weak, against mine. I was talking about not HAVING to pay for a game to enjoy it for 10+ years, yes of course there are people who get servers and pay for them, vent/ts ect, but that's their choice, they are not FORCED to do it. As of donating to my clan, i own a server..and i pay for it and for vent, but guess what, at the end of the month when its time to pay 38$ for both, i end up putting out 4$ out of my pocket, because the rest of my clan each donates 1-2$ and that's all i ask of them, but i don't force them, they can still come and play on my server and enjoy a good time with out having to donate or pay for it, since it was my choice to get a server and pay for it, but it ended up being their choice of donating every month 1-2$ which is by far not 15$ a month, and guess what from 20 people donating 1-2$ i end up only paying 2-4$ out of my pocket. Quiet a huge difference from 15$ a month, especually since no one is FORCED to pay/donate it.

It better look the part too. Face it WoW really needs to look better IMO. I still think my idea of releasing some sort of high texture or high visual addon would be great.

I don't see why they should or would want to make another MMO. If WoW is so amazing, and already has so many players/subscriptions as well as the massive fanbase/lore - then why bother? Just keep upgrading WoW.

I agree. That'd be a much better option than making a whole new game

Don't see the point of this either. They are making tons of money. Expansions come out costing $40. That's as much as a new game for just one zone and a few dungeons. They make more on expansions than on the initial development of a new game.

Easy way out is to reskin WoW using Starcraft. That would make tons too.

agreed.
I dont mean to sound like Im encouraging developers not to progress and do new things, in this particular rare case of something like WoW - I dont quite grasp why they are even bothering.

And that's one opinion. Blizzard isn't gonna change anything or judge the success or failure in WoW off just your opinion. There's always gonna be flaws in a game and it's not gonna please everyone.

The only issue with this is that almost no computer can run the game at max settings with a ton of people on the screen (100+) using spells at a decent frame rate.

No TY. I've read stories about all kinds of scandals on there & that's not what I want any part of. I'd rather a nice, contained experience where I can't get griefed. Plus from the video I've seen of it, it looks pretty slow going & involves a ton of mining, which i guess is the EVE equivalent to grinding. Or is there a large story you play though?
