Will I be immersed in Rift?

Thread Starter
Hey guys, I'm interested in playing an MMORPG. I want to really be immersed though, is the world map huge? Are there lots of places to explore etc in Rift? Also I'm not much of a PVP kind of guy, I like going solo to dungeons and bosses or with a small group, what server should I pick then? And if do ever want to try PVP will I never be able to once I pick a non-PVP one?

Let me know everything, thanks!

the world is not huge, not alot of exploration to do. I have not really cared about the story at all, so nothing has really immersed me.

As i get higher level in the game, i also notice that fewer and fewer builds are viable, with end results being a single best one.

I have decided not to continue past the first month.

Wait for Guild Wars 2.

This fits your description of the gamestyle you want. The First GW is still fantastic with lots of areas to explore and you play at your own pace with either NPC buddies or a small group of friends/strangers.

I have a level 15 character. I guess right now the most immersing thing is the rifts and invasions. You will running around doing quests and BAM!! a rift open or an invasion starts and you are sucked into defeating them. When its done you have to sit and think for a moment. "What was I doing?" LOL Its loads of fun. I have had rifts open directly on my head!(figuratively)

Can't speak to whether or not you will be, but I know that I was definitely immersed in RIFT. I love the game so far.

Rift is a MMO for gameplay alone. The gameplay beats any other out there, but the lore/story has massive holes and the world it self isn't very immersive. As of right now, zones are strictly for lvling, that's about it. You can explore, but most of the time you will always run into a group of mobs.

If you want a MMO for immersion, the best available is LOTRO.

its not a bad game. At all, its well polished, Plenty of classes to pick from, esp souls, but the mixing of souls doesnt work out to well, Builds require you to go heavy into 1 primary, and splash into the other 2, which yeild about a 5% difference in 2 peoples builds, but they are effectively the same.

I enjoy playing it. Its just not what i want from a game. I hate holy trinity gameplay. I find it boring, and fairly unintelligent design.

Does it stand up to wow and other MMOs, without a doubt it does, the rifts are fun, but they are constantly being zerged, which removes any sort of difficulty from them.

Monster difficulty is scaled by level. meaning that there is a line where you can utterly beat the crap out of monster, and then that same monster a level higher, hands you your ass just because of that single level difference. I also consider that poor gameplay design. Solo combat is not tough at all, and there are regular mobs, and elite mobs, i havent found any inbetween level mobs, that will give a solo player a run for his money.

It is just not a game for me. Thats all i can say. i dwell on the negatives, because they are what stand out for me, but i can say the same thing about the other popular mmos also. So keep that in mind.

Solid and fun game, if you are into that kind of gameplay. And the devs seem to be extremely involved in making the game great.

I saw this coming from a mile away, the class system gets so much praise but in the end Healers heal, tanks tank and everything else is DPS.
I joined a rift yesterday with my cleric (built to heal) and immediately someone noticed I was an actual healer not a cleric with a few heals I stand out like a sore thumb because everyone else wants to make a dps/healer and you can't really have both especially if your doing dungeons.
My favorite is healing half tanks in rifts... takes about 4 heals and then anything not being attacked kills me dead.
