My favorite is healing half tanks in rifts... takes about 4 heals and then anything not being attacked kills me dead.
It could have been great, but as a tank warrior, i switch between paladin and void knight depending on what mobs im facing. reaver is just a weaker version of the paladin, and the warlord is only useful in raids.

Well, in this game Rouges can tank, warriors can DPS dungeons and mages can heal.

The soul system adds TONS of versatility to the game, but if you're min/maxing you'll ALWAYS do the best build, no matter how many different builds you can do.

wrong. you can make a rogue, but then if you want to tank, you build a tank, you arent a rogue anymore. If you make yourself a mage healer, you arent a mage anymore.

The designs of the skill trees and the skills you get for points in a tree are skewed towards all the best abilities are at the top of the tree, making any sort of class building pretty much worthless.

Had they turned the skill trees into something a bit flatter, with more selections at the start like this
A lvl 5 requires 20
AA lvl 4 requires 15
AAA lvl 3 requires 10 skill points invester
AAAA lvl 2 requires 5 skill points invested
AA lvl 1

a better way to have done the skill tree is something like this

A A A requires 10
AA A AA requires 5
AA A AA

Flatten it out a bit, restrict it level to 1 or 2 abilities and 1 from the top. This would allow people to really combine different souls together to form something unique. Rather than Forcing you to absolutely focus in 1 soul to get the best skills from it. That is a simplified version, but you get the picture.

You're statements are kinda misleading. A "rouge" is a very general expression.

In this game a rouge can DPS, heal, tank or cc. How in the world does making a rouge spec into a tank tree make it stop being a rouge? Are rouges only allowed to tank?

A friend of mine has tanked with he rouge dozens of times, and she's also had points into CC or dmg or so forth.

And I'm a pally/warlord with neither trees maxed atm, (both have 29 sps a piece) and I can tank awesome in that role. If I switch to my beastmaster do I stop being a warrior?

Same goes for a chloromancer. If my mage wants to heal during an instance, how is it that he is no longer a mage?

Just remember, no matter what any developer does, there will ALWAYS be a way to min/max skills/trees/items etc to be the "best." Example, everyone on my server who is a warrior is running around dpsing in warfronts as a riftblade. I'm a champagon. (Champion/paragon) and I rape. Soon, my class will be the most played, and then we will consistently have "flavor of the month" builds. It's inevitable.

But you're statement that a rouge tank isn't a rouge is ridiculous.

Last point, my build neither maxes either of my main trees as I pull many abilities from each tree. I am ALWAYS top DPS in warfronts unless I get cc'd a crapton.

Classes, are different from the roles your class can play, which can vary widely based on your souls, but the souls require you to specialize into them or not get anything good from the tree.

and yes you can tank like that as a paladin, but you cannot tank awesome. Speccing further into the paladin tree and less into the warlord tree would make you a much much better tank. You would make a fine off tank, and decent raid support. I really hope you dont attempt to tank caster bosses with that build though.

PvP is a completely different beast from the PvE. As in PvE you still need a tank, healer, and dps roles, with an offtank , support and such. Anyone who is taking on the main role of tank, healer, and dps will need to focus on those roles entirely. your paladin warlord wont cut it at the top. Nor will your paladin warlord build be as good in the support role that warlord fills. You take up a spot that would have better been used by someone who actually focused on their role.

which leads us to the good point of having multiple builds at the same time you can switch between, depending on if you need a healer, or dps, or tank etc. Just swap and rebuff.

I'm level 45 and I've tanked every instance up to this point. Easily.

In fact, here is my tank build atm.
