[Geek] Nintendo reserves the right to brick your 3DS if piracy detected - Page 14

So what if I never buy one...What a great idea!

I'm not a pirate but I am already exhausted from these companies and their lack of innovation, security and just overall lazy approaches to their minor problems. They fail to realize that by attacking pirates there is an adverse effect, their loyal law abiding customers will only put up with so much.
I am just tired of putting in passwords to play single player games, silly multiple DRMs for games that are hardly worth protecting. Now you have to worry about a company rendering your $300 device a door stop? DONE! LET ME OUT!

That was exactly the point I was trying to convey, beef up security, block pirated software from running but DON'T brick the consoles

Yeah what ever... I've owned Nintendo consoles (amongst others) since before their NES was released (game watch series), this would put me off purchasing a NDS on sheer principle, additionally what about the potential risk of a false positive? it's not like a manufacturer has never released a buggy firmware patch before?

Block it... don't brick it!

In regards to in which country you need approval for painting a car, i believe it is in most of Europe and depending on the state you are in US (google it tons of info). Your car deed says for example Black BMW registration number XYZ. If the car in question is now a White BMW XYZ then you need to file for the change so that it is changed in the records. You even have to notify your insurance company or it won't be covered!

You are allowed to do it. You just need permission or you need to notify of the change. All those car modifying shows you think they don't pass the cars modified through tests like M.O.T before they can be driven on the road? Ofcourse they do. Fact: You need a permission to change the engine of the car, especially if its of a higher horse power so that all safety regulations are met. (the police actually confiscape modded cars if they aren't registered as modded cars and they find it out)

In this case you change the OS. Nintendo says NO. Therefore you can't. Its simple.

But again its not as simple as comparing a car to a electronic good. Even when comparing different electronic goods you have differences.

You can buy an HP laptop with windows 7 and then install ubuntu. HP doesn't care. Nor does microsoft for that fact. They made their sale. Now if you go and pirate windows 7 then you get a system lockdown. Its the same thing as bricking the 3DS.

Microsoft says you pirated the OS, therefore you get the constant spamming about activating it and even have regular shut downs unless you fix it.

Too much freedom is as bad as no freedom at all. Buy the products for what they are intended for.
What country do you live in? Here in Flordia there are no laws restricting what you do to your car. I can put a 500WHP monster V8 in my Camaro and it's fine. The part about paint you are correct, you have to notify the DMV and insurance company of the color change, but it is not illegal to modify your cars performace, engine, or swap engines here. It doesn't need to pass any safty regulations nor emmissions checks. But the laws differe from state to state, country to country. So while it may be illegal to do so where you live, it isn't illegal where I live.

I'm sure most of the people who would pirate games for the 3DS wouldn't use the wi-fi connecion, so then what? So much for detcting pirates and bricking them. If anything, I'm sure that there will be a bug and it will brick legitiment users, causing an uproar and Nintendo to hold off with the DRM. They are going to end up punishing good customers with this. But soon handhelds like the 3DS will be replaced with stronger, more powerful phones.

Except that piracy is stealing. If a company is going to spend millions on developing a good video game, they deserve the profits made from selling that game. Unless you just don't like video games, I'd suggest trying to support the developers.

Lol no. I am the customer make ME happy. I'm not happy with this therefore I will not buy one. Whats to stop them from finding another reason to brick it, or whats to stop them from randomly bricking them just so they can sell more of them, piracy is bad... I wouldn't say bad let's say it exists but a micro problem in comparison to corporate corruption.
Call me paranoid I don't care but the only connection between me and the product I buy from a company will be made by me only and only when I choose.

Why are so many people in this thread complaining? How about you spend millions and millions creating a product and watch some 15yr old steal software for it. I doubt you would be happy... wink.gif
