[TT] Toshiba NB550D AMD Fusion Netbook w/ Harman Kardon Speakers Review - Page 3

Only 4 hours of battery life is an absolute deal breaker for a laptop this size. Completely negates the whole point of it being so portable, to be honest. Netbooks and ultra-portables need to come with 5 hours of battery life at the very least, IMO. 1GB of RAM is a deal-breaker. Since Windows 7 Starter supports up to 2GB of RAM I don't see why it's not the default.

And 1024x600? C'mon. Make it 1280x720 at least.

Unless this costs less than $300, it's absolutely not worth it. You can get the HP dm1z, which has better build quality, a better screen, more RAM, a faster and higher capacity HDD, much higher battery life, and more features for $420.

Speaking of which, what's the price of this?

The 8-cell version supposedly has an 8h battery life.

I don't trust HP at all. I'd buy a Toshiba over an HP any time, regardless of how many features they manage to cram into that plastic shell. ^^

The sound from those is pretty sweet, provided you aren't trying to stretch the limits.

Much better than most netbooks out there anyway.

I would get this in a heartbeat, but I'm gonna wait and see if they can cram more power in before I decide to take a dive. A 12" model with an optical drive and 720p screen would be a much better choice, especially with the APU more then capable of pushing games and media at that resolution.

And USB 3.0

The problem is that those malfunction rates are thanks to HP skimping horribly when it comes to Intel boards. Three of my friends with low-end Intel HPs have suffered from this. None of the ones I know with AMD boards have had this problem. I've seen on forums and other places that this is typically the situation.

I still haven't been able to find the price. Does anyone know what it is? The Acer Aspire One AO522-BZ897 seems like a better deal given its better specs. It only comes with 1GB RAM, though. Even smartphones now are coming with that much RAM.
