Anyone tried a physical card for 6950/70, I was supposed how much benefit if I catch one? And which level card suitable for them?confused.gif

Thanks.

Are you talking about putting a separate nVidia card for physx along side your HD 6950/70?

If so, GT 240 seems to be best bang for buck. However, in my opinion, it is hardly worth it. I played for a while with HD 6950 and a 9800 GTX+ for physx. I hardly noticed the eye candies due to physx.

If you have a spare card lying around its ok, but since there are only about 20 games that support it there isn't a real point to go out and buy a card. Its all eye candy anyways.

Not worth it to spend the money. For 90% of the time the card will just sit there idling doing nothing. I played Metro 2033 and Mafia II just for kicks to see physx. I could not tell a difference between game play. The only way I know physx is going on is because I see my 9800 GTX+ is getting about 15% for that duration of the game.

Unless you can find one dirt cheap (I am talking like $30 or so - I am that cheap ! lol!) or have a card laying around, then not really worth the money. Now, I think anything higher or equal to 8800 GT is only worth to consider for physx, with GT 240 the optimal due its power draw.
Even the guys I know running single nvidia card (not sure about GTX 580) turns physx down or off because the performance hit is pretty severe.

If your thinking of buying then why not get a Gtx 5xx series card if physx is needed/wanted?

If your determind to run physx (i quite like it myself;))with a 69xx series card then gt240 seems like a good choice.

I was thinking about doing the same thing also but how much of a performance boost would it actually be?

With my Crossfire Shader Unlocked 6950s @ 900/1325 each card, Metro 2033 on highest settings and 1920x1080 runs around 47-70 fps - depending on what's going on.

If I were to purchase a cheap little GT 240 for PhysX, would it increase my frame rates any or just make the graphics look even better?

Roughly identical performance i'd imagine. Might even make it play slightly worse from what i've read (3-5fps hit???).

And i don't think Physx doesn't make graphics any better. It just creates a better physical environment, making objects react in a more lifelike way. Things such as explosions/glass/fire/water/debris/ and general objects seem a little more 'substantial/interactable' with Physx. Physx basically means better physics!

^^Correct me if i'm wrong;)^^

You'll see a little more details in game. Youtube Batman AA physx on/off then you'll see the difference.
