Cooler help

Thread Starter
My temps as reported by my bios are 38 idle, and 60+ load.
My case does not have the room for a large cooler. I might get a 145mm tall cooler in there.

The current cooler is the stock AMD.
I've been looking at the CM TX-3, and the Scythe Katana 3.
Do I try to make one of these work, or get a large cooler and just not put the side panel back on? Or get some good thermal paste and try a remount? These temps seem kind of high to me. (I DO have Cool and Quiet enabled.)

I do plan to upgrade my case/system, but I don't know when.

Suggestions?

Thanks,

Paul

Few things you could do:

on one of my cases my case was too small for the heatsink I bought (coolermaster212 with a couple of 38mm deep fans) so I just cut a hole in the side where I needed the heatsink to go to allow it to hang through. I know that level of mod isn't for everybody though, it isn't exactly pretty...

Other than that there are a lot of low profile coolers, I'm sure I saw a thread on them not too long ago, however a better solution perhaps may be to get a H50 or H70.

They can be quite easily fitted into most cases since they just take up the space where a 120mm fan would be (though they are a fair bit more bulky) and while not the absolute best on the market, does offer a very reasonably priced way to get fairly high end cooling.

Aside from that, back to case modding, you could perhaps add a few more fans to your case and try to lower the in case temperature, case location could be a factor, if you can move it on top of a desk where it can draw in clean air uninhibited...
