Way back in the early 90's you could rent PC games. That was back in the days when you needed the CD-ROM to play the game. Of course most rental places didn't figure that people knew how to copy CD-ROMS...

Also, many of the games offered full installs so you didn't need the disk after you installed it. I miss those days...

That was back when I was like 12 and had a 300 MHz computer and thought it was awesome (because it was at that time).

I'll just say if I respect an artist or company I will buy what they sell.

people always says '' why you buy Itunes card just go download it on the internet... you're stupid''

yeah right ... If I like an artist I want to support him by buying his product ( or support it's family or the ones with the rights on the song.) try finding all of The ink spots song on torrent ...

But most people can't understand that cause they never created anything they wanted to share or make money off of . They mostly just work at a random job they decided to take in school cause they didn't really know what to like and found a job less boring than another instead of going and trying to get the job they want . <<< this is a troll BTW

piracy of games are not really stealing but from an artist who rights songs it is imo... if you want to say the excuse of all pos torrenting music and other things ''I pirate it to see if I like it than I'll buy '' then just go on youtube to get the feel of it than buy it if you like it .

You download a game from the intent, you get no online play but you did not steal something that has cost them anything. They just lost a sale. A Sale does not easy = A product. Basicaly if you boil it down to the end only 10% of pirates would have bough the game if they didnt know how to pirate which is a small number.
I disagree with this statement because it costs the company money to develop the game, therefore they lose product in the end. Weeks, months and even years of work stolen from you and there's nothing you can do. Video games are not freeware or an open source product.

If you're in a programming class and you steal someone else's code and use it for your own assignment, though you didn't take anything physical, it's still stealing.

I'm not saying I've never done it before, but I agree with the other developers on this one. It wouldn't be cool to have all your hard work stolen from you.

Does it matter what we call it? Almost everyone has and will do it. Music, games, what have you. All pirated, why? Because people are broke and these things make them feel better in some cases. In others people are just cheap bastards. So be it.

the only time I saw someone broke was because he didn't budget enough ... If you want something there's a thing called saving your money . And If you can't afford what you have atm move to smaller and less costly things you don't need a 4 1/2 when you could live in a 1 1/2 . HELL you can live at home playing WOW without working just from the back of the good working people. if you can't save up for a songs. 0.99 on Itunes ... you have a problem

But that's only for things like songs etc. games I don't care since 60$ is just ripping peoples off.

No the other thread was actually a ery nice civil discussion, but the mods apparently dont like any mention of piracy, especially in a positive light.

I just hate when a decent game that got its basis from PC communities, then the dev's do a 180 and run for console development, to join in making the big $'s.

But honestly I wouldn't listen to a damn thing that guy says, he's not in the position of devs that do work hard on their games that aren't 100% online or are purely offline that have the potential to be fully used when pirated, sure you can pirate minecraft but you can only access single player which isn't as desirable.

I think more than anything I'm just worried that piracy damages the quality of future game releases in some cases. Hard to prove for certain, but it still seems reasonable that they probably have to cut on their budgets to ensure they maintain a safe profit margin.

Why hurt the games you love? These people work their butts off to deliver a fun experience to you. However if you don't actually care about morality then it's fairly hard to argue against it. I guess the only other reason you wouldn't want to in that case is threat of being sued? or having a swat team bang down your door like that poor Swedish kid.
