Piracy is not Theft - Says Minecraft Developer... (GDC 2011) - Page 5

Seriously its nothing bad. Some people are so desperate to play games they like so they squeeze every single penny on a good hardware but the problem is its so hard for them to afford most games when they come out so the best thing for them to do is the piracy way. That's the point of rippers these days. They always say "If you like the game support it and buy it".

First of all if you get pirated games you are very limited to enjoyment. Such as getting a pirated version of CoD, MoH and BFBC2 and finishing single player in one day that's the reason some people have no choice and move up to getting the genuine one to play online.

I have friends who don't know anything. They have a PS3 and they buy tons of games but its useless. Do they even play online? I always tell them make use of your money and online gaming is where the true fun is. Well its really them and might be you just my two cents. If you can afford so much games then go get a good internet connection to.

All these things come down to personal preferences. But of course piracy is not theft. Theft is stealing. Its like buying a PS3 and hacking it then cops will raid your home. Its really over acting. Its your right to do anything cos you purchased the product.

Imagine spending 3-5 games you can actually buy a new hardware with the money.

Maybe Notch is one of the people who cares more about people enjoying his game more than earning a bit more money.
If truly so, hats off to him.
