Yeah I wish movies were filmed and made to display 1060P/60 but 1080P/24 is still darn good for now!

Wait.. huh? No 120hz?

Actually I think I've heard that before.
God I am so behind on this its embarrassing.
I need to do some research, I am getting ready to purchase a 1600P 30" by this year's end, I just looked at your sig 30" and she looks nice.

i think i will be getting a sony fw900 if i find one locally. however, i have 1 concern:
the fw900 has input for vga only. in terms of performance, is the vga connection inferior to dvi? will my graphics card perform equally well with analog vga as it does with digital dvi?
basically, should i go crt or ips?

honestly? id get the IPS, because CRTs at this point are going to have a short usage life...

I mean im guessing, unless im wrong, the FW900 would be used, so ok it might be cheap, but how long is it going to last you? it could die in a year or something

Go IPS. When playing games on my U2711 it is unreal how much better it looks than my acer 24ich 1080p. The colors are so vibrant and everything just looks awesome. I will never go back to lcd's.

my only final concern about a crt is the lifespan. if i am going to pay several hundred dollars for a monitor i want it to last a few years of frequent use. will a used crt last? is there any thing to look for (like brightness or clarity) that may indicate how much longer a crt will last?

but also, dell website is out of the u2311h until april. does anyone know any other places to buy the u2311h?

There are two BIG indicators.

The first is brightness - if it's too dark to use comfortably in normal lighting, then the phosphors are wearing out. Now, keep in mind that it's not going to be as bright as U3011 or other super-bright LCD (those things are so bright they're blinding). But you should be able to see it comfortably. Of course, this is assuming that you've tried adjusting the brightness/contrast first, because they might just be a bit off.

The second is how long it takes the image to pop up and reach full brightness when you turn it on from it being cold. Normally it should take around 5-10 seconds. If it's taking more like 30 seconds then the guns are near death.

Other than that every other problem can be fixed either by calibration, or by replacing an electrical component (a capcitor, or the flyback, or whatever). But those two problems are indicators of a dying tube - which is the only thing you can't fix.
