Will an Ultra LSP550 power an HD 4870?

Thread Starter
Hey everyone, I recently just bought an HD 4870 by Visiontek along with a lsp550 power supply from amazon. The psu is made by Ultra and unfortunately I bought it in a rush, so I didn't get a chance to read reviews and soon realized that a couple of people on certain forums have said it's pretty bad. However, there were also people that have said it was good, so I don't really know who to believe. Does this thing even have enough power to run my pc?

My Specs:
Visiontek 4870 1GB
Q6600
3GB RAM
Hitachi DVD drive (standard)
500 GB sata hard drive

I'm also on a pretty tight budget so the low price got to me. Fortunately, it just shipped so I can actually still send it back If I need to. I read the specs of the PSU and it says 30A on the +12v Rail. Is that enough, or will I have to change power supplies if I ever upgrade my video card? Also, according to ATI's website, at least a 500w psu is recommended for the 4870 but people say that this psu can't even pull off 400w. I really hope that this isn't the case. Any one have any experiences with the lsp550 or Ultra products in general?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Can't be farther from the truth. The vast majority of their lineup ranges from mediocre to downright awful. LSP-550 may be one of two units, either from Yue-lin or RSY. Both are terrible and are only good for 250-400W (unsure, they haven't been tested; but the design is ancient and the build quality sucks).

I'd highly recommend returning it to whatever store you bought it from.
