I am in fullscreen, good to make sure I knew that though.

Are you happy with that? Isn't the 5870 the proper replacement for an x2 performance-wise?

I haven't, it would probably be a good idea, but would it fix it? If I go home today and the thing's been off for a whole day, it's gotta be cooled off. If it's completely cooled, shouldn't it boot up and run properly. Then after some time the problem should return if it's a temp issue, right? I really don't know, but that's my logic.

well some of the ati cards have error codes for the blinking some of those error codes are over heating. any who. air duster doesn't necessarily clean the lost. at work we fold of paper and wedge the corner and go back and forth. revived a few laptops doing that. The papers gets the gunk off the contacts. Has to be blank printer paper for the most part.

Good point, I'll give it a shot this evening.

Morning edit:

I decided to give Asus a shot at the problem and maybe get it RMA'd before I did too much work, so I spent an hour on the phone with this girl last night. She didn't even know what a 4870x2 was. All she had was a script. She couldn't understand how it could be that the game could load, not crash, and how that was 'not working'. I told her like eight times,"It has TWO gpus."

Anyway, after an hour of following her script, which only consisted of restarting the computer and loading the bios default, she said the magic words, "Let me check the warranty." But then, get this, she wanted me to ship my sabertooth to them. I said, "Whoa, there's nothing wrong with the mobo. I wanna keep it." Hilarious. She then said she would send my trouble ticket to the next level and I would get an email in the next day or two.

Maybe the level 2 guys know what a 4870x2 is.

Edit:

Just got the RMA email; I'll send the card off tomorrow. Meanwhile, I'm really trying to fight off the urge of pulling the trigger on a 6950 or 570. Smart money says wait and see what I get back, and also give time for the 590 to hit and prices on it and the 6990 to drop and affect the rest of the market.

Opinions?

yes the 5870 is the proper replacement. however asus sent me one the first rma, it was a bad one, wouldn't even post. sent it back and yelled at them about there card testing before it leaves for a customer. 2 days after they get it back they call me and let me know they are out of them so they are going to upgrade me and asked if that was ok.. so i went for it.. it got hear and i was like HOLY SHIZNA... no way... pop it in and it worked great, gave a really good performance boost. but my original i paid almost 400.00 for my 4870x2 when i got it. so i say it is a more than fair trade.

I think they will take care of you. just ask them to make sure they test it before they send it out.. there is nothing like the frustration of RMA a fresh RMA card.

This is really weird.
I would think if a gpu died the card wouldn't even work right and you would see major issues. Not just bad performance.

Glad you got the rma approval!
I suggest buying another of the card you get from RMA and crossfire ?

A 6870 would be a good trade as well. Can ASUS offer you nvidia cards during the RMA process?

no. if you RMA an ATI you can get an ATI. if you RMA a NVIDIA you get a NVIDIA.
